Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. Each of these sites has a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise.
The Museum has an aim to ‘Put the Visitor First’. The appearance of the Museum is the first thing that visitors see, so a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas is essential. The Cleaner’s role is to ensure that the Museum is kept clean, attractive, serviced and welcoming at all times so that our visitors have the best experience possible. The roleholder is responsible for cleaning of the following toilets (public and staff), floors, doors; lifts, staircases, kitchens and tea stations, offices, all internal hard surfaces; and connecting public spaces. General cleaning includes dusting, mopping, hoovering, polishing, disinfecting, sweeping, emptying bins; handling chemicals and cleaning agents; replenishing consumable items e.g. soap, toilet rolls, etc. as required; using industrial cleaning equipment such as buffing machines and scrubber dryers (training is provided); undertaking deep cleans as required; reporting any sightings of pests, damage, or wear and tear; following and implementing health and safety regulations and demonstrating excellent customer care skills.
Successful candidates will be able to carry out the physical aspects of the role which involves lifting of rubbish bags and buckets of water, bending and stretching; can work confidently work unsupervised, as well as within a team; will complete health and safety training; will be reliable and punctual; can demonstrate good communication skills.
This job is on a rota pattern that operates over 17.5 hours per week including weekends and bank holidays. The post works 5 out of 7 days a week on average. Shifts are 3.5 hours and are generally worked between 7am and 10.30am. Some flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business. Occasional overtime may be offered.
