We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join a leading geotechnical consultancy in Ireland. This role involves delivering complex geotechnical design solutions as part of a multidisciplinary team working on major infrastructure projects, including rail, highways, structures, and water. The successful candidate will be based in one of our offices or have the option to work in a hybrid role, within Ireland, depending on connectivity. This position offers the opportunity to mentor junior staff and manage significant projects while contributing to the growth and success of the team.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in geotechnical design, including major road, rail, and civil projects.
* A Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
* Chartered status (CEng, MICE, or equivalent) is essential.
* Proven experience in a fast-paced engineering consultancy environment.
* Strong project management skills, with an understanding of client relationships, work planning, and commercial management.
* Geotechnical design expertise with strong numerical and analytical skills.
* Experience in soft ground techniques, soil reinforcement, piling, and retaining walls.
* Construction experience in earthworks, soil improvement, and deep foundations is desirable but not essential.
* Proficiency in design to Eurocode 7 and in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Holebase/Openground, Wallap, etc.
* Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop and manage geotechnical design teams.
* Strong communication skills and confidence in client interactions.
* A good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful projects.
* Excellent report writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Willingness to travel for short assignments within Ireland and overseas.
* Fluent in spoken and written English.
* A valid full clean driver's license.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project Management: Oversee geotechnical aspects of projects, ensuring successful delivery from inception to completion.
* Client Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships and ensuring project success.
* Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists, promoting professional development.
* Geotechnical Design: Deliver comprehensive design packages, including earthworks, slope stability, foundations, and retaining walls.
* Ground Investigations: Plan and procure ground investigation contracts for major infrastructure projects.
* Design Support: Provide specialist geotechnical input to multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring compliance with Eurocode 7 standards.
* Quality Assurance: Review and check reports, drawings, and calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Business Development: Assist in tender preparation and contribute to the growth and success of the business.
