About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Manager to join our Global Health team at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the future of global health by commissioning and managing research programs that promote evidence-based solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in global health and research management, with a proven track record of working effectively across international and multidisciplinary teams. They will be responsible for commissioning global health research calls, negotiating funding agreements, and managing a portfolio of funded projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Commissioning of Global Health Research calls: Supporting all aspects of research funding, contributing to the call theme and priority setting, revising guidance documents, advising potential applicants, reviewing applications for eligibility against guidance and policy, supporting the funding committee, coordinating and attending funding committee meetings, taking accurate and comprehensive minutes of the committee meetings, providing timely feedback to successful and unsuccessful applicants.
* Award management: Negotiating funding agreements for projects recommended for funding, including the negotiation of milestones, financial arrangements and reporting requirements to enable successful project progression; managing a portfolio of funded projects including monitoring of delivery progress and financial performance, reviewing intellectual property plans and other key deliverables, and managing contractual changes to ensure the project remains compliant with NIHR GHR programme objectives and expectations, analysis of project and programme level outputs, outcomes and impact.
Requirements
* A biomedical or health sciences degree
* Experience of working in a research management environment
* Experience of liaising with senior individuals in a variety of organisations with an ability to create favourable working relationships easily
* Good knowledge of biomedical and health research disciplines
* Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
* Proficient in the use of email and other web-based applications, including online databases
* Ability to distil and summarise complex information
Desirable Criteria
* M.Sc. or PhD in a biomedical field
* Experience of working on health related international development projects supported by ODA funding
* A track record of successful management of international or remotely delivered projects involving multiple organisations
* At least three years' experience of research management
* Experience of report writing and evaluation of research outcomes
* Experience of developing and working to agreed quality practices and standards
* Experience of building stakeholder relationships and responding effectively to enquiries from a wide range of global stakeholders

This is an office based, hybrid role, with an expectation for all employees to attend our offices a minimum of 4 days a month, which might increase, subject to team requirements.
