SENIOR ENGINEERING GEOLOGIST/GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER sought at a well-established and dynamic Medium-sized, Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy. This excellent opportunity is based in Leeds.
Overview
Our client is a well-established and reputable Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy comprised of highly qualified Chartered, or working towards chartered status, engineers collaboratively utilising up-to-date technology, data and software to provide competitive services in every aspect of engineering for any type of development.
They are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic candidate to manage and work on various Geotechnical engineering projects. These projects predominantly cover the north of England, centred on Leeds, but will occasionally include sites across the UK.
The successful candidate will join a team of Geo-environmental and Engineering Geologists and will be involved in producing Geo-environmental Desk Studies and Site Investigation Reports, Coal Mining Risk Reports, Tenders and Specifications for grouting of mine workings and earthworks, and responses to regulator conditions/queries.
The role is generally office based, but there will be occasional requirements to attend meetings with Clients, supervise site work on a visiting basis, such as grout treatment or earthworks, and occasionally carry out fieldwork activity, such as logging boreholes and trial pits should workload demand. The candidate will also assist the Department Head with the day-to-day management of the department and supervision of junior staff and contributing to their development.
Requirements
Suitable candidates will have:
1. Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology (Essential)
2. Masters in Engineering Geology or Environmental Geology related subject (Desirable)
3. Chartered Geologist (CGeol) status or evidence of working towards (Essential)
Will preferably have at least 10 years’ relevant industry background (but possibly a minimum of 5 years for exceptional candidates) in:
1. Ground Investigation Techniques
2. Supervision of fieldwork activity, including organising and directing field operations (equipment and personnel)
3. Sampling and logging of soil and rock to professional/technical standards
4. Scheduling of laboratory testing (geotechnical and contamination)
5. Preparation of interpretative reports on both geotechnical and contamination aspects
6. Preparation of earth works specification and validation reports
7. Preparation of Geotechnical and Contamination Remediation strategies and Validation of Remediation
8. Consultations with Regulators
The following skills or background are desirable, but not essential:
1. Slope stability assessment
2. CLEA Risk Assessment
3. Groundwater DQRA
The suitable candidate must be motivated and enthusiastic and will possess:
1. Capability to work independently or with the design team.
2. Ability to effectively delegate work to others and act in a mentoring role to less experienced staff.
3. Knowledge and understanding of current technical standards.
4. Financial management skills in assessing potential projects and preparing fee quotes.
5. Excellent time management skills and project budget management.
6. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
7. Background in dealing with clients and attending design team meetings.
8. Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
9. Commitment to continued professional development.
10. Full UK Driving Licence.
On offer
1. Salary £42,500 – £45,000
2. 26 days paid annual leave, comprising your birthday, 22 flexible days, and 3 days fixed over the Christmas period. In addition, 8 bank holidays are provided. There is also the ability to purchase additional annual leave days.
