There are many opportunities to develop therapeutic skills working with children and families, teaching and training within the diabetes MDT and take an active role quality improvement and research where this is of interest. The Dermatology post provides the opportunity to develop a new psychology service for this much needed population. The dermatology team offer a general dermatology service for all local patients with skin disease, and are also a regional centre for patients with more complex needs. Patients have conditions which create a visible difference (e.g., congenital malformations, alopecia, etc.) and can have a devastating effect on growth and development, quality of life, confidence and self-image. The Child Psychology team provides a supportive base from which we can give our best to the families we meet, as well as to our multidisciplinary colleagues. As a team we place a strong emphasis on self-care and on supporting one another. This means that there are clear job plans and people are encouraged to maintain a good work/life balance.
