We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team.
As a Support Worker, you will oversee six care-experienced young people aged 18-25 who live in their own individual apartments within our setting as part of the Staying Close model for Redcar and Cleveland. From April 2025, the provision will move to OFSTED Supported Accommodation for 16 and 17 year olds. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and ready our young people for the next stage of independence.
What we expect from you:
* An ability to develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships with the people we support, promoting their self-esteem, happiness and emotional health in line with the Supported Accommodation Regulations 2023.
* Encourage and support our young people in expressing their needs, views and concerns and enable them to make choices and decisions and to participate as fully as possible in planning and decision-making processes.
* To support people in developing a socially valued lifestyle which includes a varied range of culturally and age-appropriate experiences, building on the person’s strengths, interests and aspirations.
* To support people in general housekeeping, such as cooking, domestic tasks, preparing meals, laundry and shopping.
* To provide support with healthcare, social services, housing departments and other external agencies, e.g. attending relevant appointments, helping to explain information, and completing relevant paperwork in partnership with individuals.
* Where relevant, to encourage and support people in undertaking training and employment opportunities.
* To develop and review individual support plans, ensuring regular contact with our young people to deliver ongoing support which contributes to achieving the goals set out in their support plan.
* To ensure daily logs are completed and that key communication tools, such as the diary and handovers are updated in a clear and professional manner.
* Develop and update young people’s risk assessments.
* To be responsive to the individual needs of the young people we support and to respond flexibly to changing needs.
* To attend and participate in team and resident meetings as required.
* To actively participate in training, supervision and staff development sessions, accepting and providing constructive feedback.
* Work effectively as part of a team and work independently on own initiative when required.
* To ensure that residents are given all relevant information and updates in a way that is suited to them and their individual needs.
* To always ensure that confidentiality is maintained with respect to information relating to individuals and the organisation.
* To work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure our young people move on to suitable accommodation in the right timeframe, with outreach support where necessary.
* To work as part of a team rota: 12 hour shifts both days and waking nights, with overtime available.
Your skills, knowledge and experience:
* Empathetic, enthusiastic, flexible and understanding approach.
* At least 2 years' experience in a relevant sector i.e. Children's Residential Care, housing, or safeguarding.
* NVQ/QCF Level 3 in a relevant field such as Children and Young People's Workforce or Residential Childcare, or a willingness to work towards this within 18 months of appointment.
* Good general standard of education.
* An understanding of trauma-informed practice, ACEs and a PACE approach.
* Knowledge of the Supported Accommodation Regulations and Staying Close.
* Understanding of OFSTED and the role they play in regulating the sector.
* Full driving license and ability to be insured on the company car.
