Consultant Anaesthetist - 2 Posts (ITU, Obstetrics/General)

Salary: £105,504 - £139,882 per annum (Dependent on experience)

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic consultants (with interest in ITU & Obstetrics/General). These posts aim to convert locum posts to substantive posts. It provides opportunity for the appointees to introduce new ideas and contribute to the progress of the department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to participate in elective theatres and on call activity in addition to area of interest. The theatre lists are provisional and may be altered after discussion, if necessary. An element of flexibility in the job plan is crucial to the smooth running of the service to meet the contractual commitments and changing service demands on a weekly basis, with 10% of sessions being flexible.

On call duties:
1. 1.0 PA's are included each week for on Call duties, this was established from Consultant-on-call diaries and will be continuously reviewed.
2. Consultant anaesthetists currently work 1:19 on-call rota with prospective cover.
3. After hours duties include Intensive Care, Theatres and Maternity cover.
This post will attract a job plan of 10 PA's of which 8.5 will be direct patient care. Further clinical sessions may be undertaken by mutual consent and with suitable recompense. This job plan may be amended in consultation with the post holder as Trust developments evolve, and as part of the appraisal process.

Qualification and Professional Training
Essential:
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise
* Entry on Specialist Register in Anaesthesia (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date) FRCA or equivalent exam
* ALS / APLS provider status
Desirable:
* ATLS, MOET Provider Status
Experience and Knowledge
Essential:
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in anaesthesia
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Minimum of six months training in Intensive Care Medicine at specialty registrar level or equivalent
* Advanced training in Obstetrics
* Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
Desirable:
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research
* Certified training in Medical Education
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities
* Ability to manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of conducting clinical audit
* Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision making
* Ability to teach skills to Medical, Nursing and other staffing groups
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
* An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiatives
* Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate
Desirable:
* Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 years
* Evidence of having undertaken original research
* Experience in implementing electronic patient record system
