The Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is excited to recruit a specialist dietitian to work within our paediatric service, working with people in our acute inpatient wards and on occasions within outpatients. As the successful applicant, you will be working within our proud and forward-thinking MDT, alongside colleagues who are friendly, approachable and supportive and who truly value dietitians as part of the MDT service. This is an exciting time for Dietetics, Allied Health Professionals and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as we will have recently moved to our brand new Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital which completes in October/November of 2024.
Main duties of the job
The successful postholder will look after a caseload of inpatients across our acute paediatric wards covering the inpatient wards and high dependency paediatric unit. The caseload consists of working with babies, children, young people and their adults, and the caseload may include working with children requiring enteral tube feeding, with faltering growth, or allergies to name a few. The postholder will have opportunities to work alongside other paediatric dietitians within our team who cover paediatric allergy, diabetes, community services, and the neonatal unit building strong working relationships and peer support. The role is likely to include a small outpatient element and opportunity to develop skills in managing babies who are stepped down from the neonatal unit with opportunities to develop skills across paediatrics and neonatal care. You will have a varied and interesting caseload of patients and will be working with children and young people and their adults/carers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the multidisciplinary team to optimise the care of babies, children and young people on the ward and on discharge. You will be joining a progressive service that is keen to be the employer of choice and working within our brand new hospital you will never feel unsupported in your role.
About us
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.
Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens this year and will provide care to our local population from first-class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH. If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continue your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.
We have three strategic objectives:
1. Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
2. Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
3. Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
