Job Title: Locum Doctor (Consultant/Specialty Doctors)
Location: NHS TRUST
Reports to: Clinical Director or Consultant
Role Summary: The Locum Doctor (Consultant/Specialty Doctor) is a temporary position providing expert clinical care within a specific specialty. The role includes responsibilities similar to those of permanent Consultants and Specialty Doctors, including patient management, supervision of junior medical staff, participation in departmental activities, and contribution to clinical governance and quality improvement. The position is crucial for covering staffing gaps, such as during leaves or shortages.
Key Responsibilities:
For Consultant Role:
* Provide expert clinical care including assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients.
* Lead and supervise the clinical work of junior doctors, including Specialty Registrars and Junior Doctors.
* Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and on-call duties as required.
* Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit activities.
* Engage in teaching and training of medical students and junior medical staff.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
For Specialty Doctor Role:
* Provide clinical care in the specialty under the supervision of a Consultant.
* Perform relevant procedures and participate in ward rounds and outpatient clinics.
* Engage in teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students.
* Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement, and research activities.
* Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
* Participate in on-call duties and emergency cover as required.
Essential Qualifications:
For Consultant Role:
* Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
* Completion of specialty training (CCT or equivalent) in the relevant specialty.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or equivalent body.
* Membership of relevant Royal College or equivalent (e.g., MRCP, FRCS).
For Specialty Doctor Role:
* Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
* Completion of Core Medical Training or equivalent.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or equivalent body.
* Membership of relevant Royal College or equivalent body (e.g., MRCP, MRCS).
Desirable Skills:
* Extensive clinical experience in the specialty (for Consultant role) or relevant experience (for Specialty Doctor role).
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Strong commitment to teaching, quality improvement, and research.
* Ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and teams.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract, Temp to perm
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: £65.00-£125.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 per week
