Professor of Clinical Trials & Methodology

Job Purpose
To take a senior leadership role in clinical trials within the University of Glasgow based in the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Excellence in Trials Collaboration (CETC) in partnership with the Glasgow Clinical Trials Units (CTUs).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Undertake a lead strategic role in the development of CETC’s reputation as a centre of excellence in clinical trial methodology in partnership with the Glasgow CTU’s.
2. Provide CETC leadership in relation to research and publication in order to enhance the quality of the University’s international clinical trial and related methodology profile.
3. Sustain internationally leading high-quality clinical trial and related methodology research activity, seeking and securing funding for a portfolio of research projects.
4. Take a leading role in relation to strategic learning and teaching initiatives.
5. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities.
6. Demonstrate leadership in supervising research projects undertaken by research staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students.
7. Make a substantial contribution to University Committees/Working Groups.
8. Build effective internal and external collaborations.
9. Represent the School/College/University on key external bodies.
10. Ensure a substantial track record of knowledge creation and transfer.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
13. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent Postgraduate qualification in Statistics, clinical trials or equivalent.
2. Extensive knowledge of clinical trials and related methodology.
3. Knowledge of the requirements of Good Clinical Practice and all other legal and regulatory requirements.
4. Extensive knowledge and understanding of research centre administration and management.
5. Established internationally-recognised reputation for high-quality research.
6. Thorough understanding of academic leadership and management.
7. Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies.
8. Membership of a relevant professional body.
9. Track record of funded research/publications in clinical trial methodology.
Skills
1. Research leadership.
2. Applied statistical analysis or related clinical trials methodology application.
3. Experience of management of staff and multidisciplinary teamwork.
4. Excellent communication skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be within the Professorial range and subject to negotiation. This appointment will be subject to the whole powers and conditions of any Act of Parliament, Ordinances, and Law affecting the University.
