Description Wood is recruiting for Senior and Principal Structural Designers to join its Upstream business within our Operations team to provide the link between engineering design theory and practical application. This position will be hired on a limited contractor basis for a period of 12 months, outside IR35. This position is based in our Head Office in Aberdeen with Hybrid working. LI-Hybrid The Role These positions will working in our Aberdeen Engineering hub where we are in significant growth mode. We have multidiscipline work across a variety of clients with scopes ranging from Repair orders, minor modifications to larger project work. Live and Forecast work covers all phases of project life cycle from front end concept studies, through Pre-FEED, FEED, EPCC and Decommissioning. We are leading the way with ongoing studies looking to electrify existing assets and have a growing portfolio of decarbonisation projects including flare gas recovery systems. We are looking for Structural Engineers to join our exceptional team and use your technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables. You will prepare engineering drawings from engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures and create designs and sketch out detailed plans for projects such as commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures. Responsibilities Senior Designer: Plans and carries out technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity Develops working drawings, within company and industry standards and codes, from equipment specifications and detailed drawings to support completion of engineering deliverables Work on assignments involving a variety of design procedures and techniques Establishes project drafting standards and monitors their conformance Identifies cost effective solutions to design problems Designs and constructs models, prototypes, processes or equipment; compiles and evaluates data, makes recommendations, prepares reports Principal Designer: Further to the above; May act as coordinator on small projects, prepares specifications for complex equipment and processes Ensures quality in design, technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings, material quantities, including reviewing Plans assigned work effectively and obtains / provides information liaising with the project team and line manager, in time to control man-hours and achieve targets Qualifications Expected: Degree in engineering discipline, alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience An understanding of related engineering principles and practices, plus training and diversified experience in the field of activity Capable of interpreting key documents including; engineering standards, piping material specifications, P&IDs and Line Lists Technically oriented, mechanically inclined, good at mathematics and talented at translating intangible concepts into hands-on project plans Competent user of CAD/D software
