Headquartered in Toronto Canada, we work closely with our wholly owned subsidiary Micon International with offices in Toronto, Truro (UK) and Norwich (UK). Whilst this role is based in the UK it will support and work under the direction of the Toronto engineering team. The intention is to build and develop engineering capability in the UK that will in the short term support the Canadian operations but in the medium term establish a fully functioning engineering office in the UK. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our team. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and components for various projects on minerals processing plants. Your role will involve collaborating with other discipline engineers, designers, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure that electrical systems meet the required specifications, codes, and standards. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule. Key Responsibilities: Willing to work in design teams in close collaboration with multi-discipline engineers and project managers on international projects. Specify, design and develop electrical systems (medium voltage and low voltage), including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and wiring layouts for a wide range of projects. Prepare and review technical drawings including, but not limited to motor schematics, electrical room and electrical equipment layouts, cable tray layouts, lighting design, grounding drawings and design, conduit design and layouts, interconnection diagrams, junction box details, network diagrams, loop wiring diagrams, and installation details. Areas of expertise include Electrical design work for power distribution, grounding systems, motor control, lighting, fire alarm and communication systems for industrial projects; HV/MV substation design, AC load study & cable routing and cable schedules, lightning protection, equipment specification, Motor Control Centre design, fire alarm systems, AC/DC schematic diagrams, BOM, interconnection wiring diagram Prepare and review Bills of Materials (BOM) and equipment specifications / datasheets. Collaborate with project teams, engineers, sub-contractors, and vendors to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives. Conduct site visits to assess existing electrical systems and gather relevant data for design purposes. Select appropriate electrical equipment, components, and materials based on project specifications, cost considerations, and collaboration with vendors. Create and review electrical system documentation, such as bills of materials, technical reports, and installation instructions. Coordinate with sub-contractors and vendors to obtain necessary materials and ensure smooth project execution. Participate and oversee commissioning activities at sites. Assist in the preparation of project cost estimates and proposals. Troubleshoot electrical system issues and provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases. Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to electrical design and implementation. Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field. 5 - 15 years of experience in engineering, plant design, construction and commissioning. Having a professional engineering status in your jurisdiction would be considered an asset Proven experience working as an Electrical Engineer or in a similar role. Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards (e.g., CEC, IEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, NEC, IEC, ISO 9000). Good knowledge of power system study software such as ETAP, SKM, Easy Power. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for electrical design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools. Proficiency in 3D modelling software for electrical and instrumentation design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools. Solid understanding of electrical equipment, components, and materials used in building systems. Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, sub-contractors, and vendors. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy efficiency concepts.
