Key Responsibilities:
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
To provide focused bioinformatics expertise to support the analysis and data management of mass spectrometry-based data. This individual will work with the Data Science team to develop tools and workflows to assist the proteomics department with the analysis of large immunopeptidomic datasets. In addition, the individual will support the maintenance and development of the HLA peptide database and associated tools which permit integration with transcriptomics/genomics data sources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work with the Data Science and Proteomic teams to maintain a database of HLA peptides based on in house mass spectrometry data.
2. Assist in applying cutting edge approaches to discover peptide target candidates.
3. Support development of tools and workflows to help the Proteomics department (and other departments across the organization) interrogate the data present in the HLA peptide database and any other data generated by mass spectrometry.
4. Test and aid development of tools to allow for the analysis of large Proteomics/Immunopeptidomics datasets.
5. Benchmark new software (both commercial and open source) for the analysis of mass spectrometry data.
6. Support development and implementation of quality control analytics of proteomics and mass spectrometry data.
7. Develop web apps to allow scientists to interact with data.
8. Maintain and increase technical knowledge in relevant fields through self-study, observation, attending relevant conferences and training courses.
9. Maintain accurate records of all work by completing documentation on time, following Company procedures.
10. Operate in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety policies.
Experience and Knowledge:
Essential:
1. Proficient in R/BioConductor, Linux OS and shell scripting bash. Proven programming ability.
2. Understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, immunology or related discipline.
3. Presented detailed scientific findings and papers to internal and external audiences.
4. Must be able to communicate on a technical level with other scientists from unrelated disciplines.
5. Self-motivated; demonstrated success in delivering assigned tasks according to timelines.
6. Problem-solve.
7. Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment as part of a motivated team.
Desirable:
1. Theoretical and practical experience with the analysis of mass spectrometry/ Proteomics data.
2. Experience of independent research in academic or industrial setting, or transferable skills gained from professional experience.
3. Experience in developing R Shiny apps.
4. May have experience of developing databases, using SQL or similar, and pairing with a user-friendly interface.
5. Mentored and coached less experienced colleagues in scientific practices and theory.
6. May have knowledge of machine learning, applied statistics or related field.
Education & Qualifications:
Essential: MSc. in bioinformatic related discipline with additional academic/industrial experience.
Desirable: PhD in related discipline.
