Job Description
An opportunity has arisen within Grounds Maintenance for a Grounds Chargehand.
To provide either individually, or as a member of a team, a comprehensive service maintaining public parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, and sports fields.
Contribute to the operational delivery of Grounds Maintenance objectives and ensure timescales for the delivery of scheduled works and project works are adhered to. This will include grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, pruning, minor tree works, site preparation, and maintenance of hard and soft landscaping areas.
These duties will require the use and operation of a range of tools, small plant, and pedestrian equipment. Driving duties will require the use and operation of vehicles up to 3.5 tonne (GVW), towing, including vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning. Completion of associated paperwork or documentation is also required.
The list is not exhaustive but is intended to provide the principal range of the Chargehand's duties to be carried out:
1. Ensuring work is undertaken, carried out, and completed according to instructions received.
2. Ensuring that safe working practices are adopted, promoting and monitoring safe working practices ensuring compliance with safety regulations and the Corporate and Service Health and Safety Policy.
3. Ensuring that the conduct of the team is in accordance with Council Policy.
4. Assisting the Estates Officer in the accurate completion of documentation including vehicle defect notification and daily time sheets.
5. Ensuring vehicles and plant are operated in accordance with instructions and appropriate daily vehicle checks and associated paperwork are completed.
Knowledge of the range of associated activities relating to the delivery of projects and grounds maintenance services is essential. A minimum Class B driving licence is required, and competence to use and operate associated plant, vehicles, and equipment is necessary. A Class C1 or C1+E licence would be desirable.
