ASSISTANT EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST
Waite Psychology has availability for an Assistant Educational Psychologist to join our team on a full-time basis, term time only (39 weeks annually), and to work in and around the Lancashire and Blackpool areas, with the expectation that the successful candidate may need to travel further afield (within reason) to meet service demands.
The post is an associate position with a salary based on the Soulbury pay scale (1 to 4, £35,228 (£135 a day) to £39,341 (£151 a day)), prorated to 39 weeks annually and agreed depending upon skill and experience.

Waite Psychology has been providing Educational Psychology and Support Services since 2018. We are a family-run service and currently consist of a team of eighteen professionals, inclusive of Educational Psychologists (EP), Assistant Educational Psychologists, Specialist Teachers and an office/administrative team. We deliver services to schools across the North-West, inclusive of Lancashire, Blackpool, Blackburn with Darwin, Bolton and Greater Manchester. We are involved in several projects and research. We also have a coaching and therapeutic offer. Our success is reflected in the wellbeing of our supportive team and retention of schools who work with us through our SLAs, together with continuous new enquiries, largely driven by word-of-mouth recommendations.
Our Services
We have SLAs with individual schools and academy trusts. We offer a regular, embedded service to our SLA schools, which allows our team to foster strong relationships and work creatively to meet our schools' needs through providing a range of services. Our model allows flexibility to provide one-off support to schools too and collaborative working between Educational Psychologists and Assistant Educational Psychologists. Our range of services include:
* Advice and reports (varied from action plans to full reports) for individual children, involving a focus on consultation, assessment and intervention.
* Coaching and training for school staff on all areas of child development and particular interventions, such as Optima Reading.
* Support under our ‘Nurturing Schools with Waite Psychology’ logo - a branch of our company designed to develop and implement support for children and young people’s Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), inclusive of school-wide support to implement relationship and regulation approaches, and the development of our own therapeutic intervention/s.
* Engagement in research and development through our connections with Manchester University Educational and Child Psychology Doctorate Programme, and the development of projects with other specialists.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Assistant Educational Psychologist, who has the following:
Skills:
* An ability to apply a child-centred approach and philosophy to their work.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* An ability to build rapport with children, families and professionals.
* An ability to work both collaboratively with colleagues and independently, whilst understanding personal limitations.
* Effective personal organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and to work to a deadline.
* Can travel to settings within agreed areas within the North-West (mainly in and around Lancashire and Blackpool).
Knowledge:
* Of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
* An awareness of English education systems and legislation, specifically those which pertains to additional/special educational needs, particularly:
o A good understanding of current factors impacting the education system, teaching and learning in schools, inclusivity and children or young people with SENs.
o A good understanding of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice and the role of an Educational Psychologist.
* An awareness of theories in psychology and how they can be used to understand presenting issues in schools and other settings, particularly:
o A good understanding of current research and theories within child and adolescent development.
* An understanding of and commitment to anti-oppressive practice and equal opportunities.
* An awareness of social, cultural and familial factors which may impact children and young people’s learning and development.
* A working knowledge of therapeutic approaches and techniques.
* Knowledge of how to apply psychology, in order to support children, schools and families to achieve positive outcomes.
Experience:
* A minimum of 2 years full-time experience of working with children, young people and/or families in a supportive capacity. Full-time means 37 hours a week or the equivalent if part time.
Qualifications:
* British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited undergraduate programme or conversion degree programme in Psychology – First degree class I or III, or conversion degree at merit level.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The role and purpose
To work as a member of the Educational Psychology Service. To carry out a range of duties to support Educational Psychologists in their delivery of the Service's aims and objectives. To undertake a range of psychological assessment and intervention services, particularly therapeutic approaches, related to special educational needs. To gain experience and skills that would enable progression to an Educational and Child Psychology Doctoral training programme.
Accountable to: Senior Educational Psychologist
Duties and Responsibilities
* To work directly alongside a qualified Educational Psychologist and support them in appropriate areas of service delivery.
* To promote the use of psychology to improve the educational outcomes and emotional well-being of children and young people.
* Under the direction and supervision of a qualified Educational Psychologist, to work collaboratively with and provide support to children and young people with special educational needs, and the adults working with them.
* Under the direction and supervision of a qualified Educational Psychologist, to help in the assessment of children and young people’s needs and the implementation of strategies. To complete assessment and consultation activities, and report writing.
* To assist Educational Psychologists in the design, collection and analysis of outcome measures following a piece of EP work, such as an action plan, intervention or training.
* To assist Educational Psychologists in the delivery of training.
* To work on research, service development and/or longer-term interventions or project work directly with staff and with children and young people. Particularly, the delivery of therapeutic interventions and group work. Such pieces of work will be led by a qualified Educational Psychologist and training and supervision will be provided.
* To keep accurate up to date records of all work relating to children and young people. To ensure the Service’s guidance on secure storage and use of data to maintain confidentiality and observe data protection are fully understood and followed. It will be necessary to work with information technology and associated systems in accordance with the services procedures.
* To ensure compliance with the Service’s child protection and safeguarding procedures are fully understood and followed.
* To ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including equality and anti-discrimination legislation.
* To keep up to date with developments in the field of Educational Psychology and with relevant legislation and developments regarding education, particularly for children and young people who have special educational needs.
* To develop skills and knowledge through participation in the process of supervision with a qualified Educational Psychologist; through participation in Service team meetings; and through peer supervision. To undertake further training as part of continuing professional development, including participation at the Service’s annual professional development events and any Assistant Educational Psychologists' development sessions.
* To ensure the Service’s guidance on health and safety is fully understood and followed.
* To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, appropriate with the level of responsibility of the post. This may be administrative, to support the development of Service-wide projects, interventions and resources.
