Job overview
The Matron will provide expert clinical nursing advice and management support to the Vascular Access (VAST) and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial (OPAT) service Sisters/Charge Nurses. The post holder will support the Lead Nurse in risk management, patient safety, and clinical governance issues within VAST and OPAT, ensuring all patients are treated with compassion and respect. The Matron’s key responsibility is ensuring the patient experience is of the highest quality.
The post holder will be expected to work clinically for 85% of their time and will be a specialist in their clinical area. The Matron is accountable directly to the Lead Nurse for VAS and OPAT.

Main duties of the job
The Matron role provides leadership for both the vascular access service and the OPAT service. The post holder will provide leadership, expert clinical nursing advice in vascular access, and management support for both services.
As an applicant, you must demonstrate multidisciplinary team working and exhibit strong communication and conflict resolution skills. You will have experience of leading change, innovation, and staff development. Proficient skills in PICC insertion and advanced cannulation skills are required.

To provide the safe provision and development of the Vascular Access (VAS) and Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic (OPAT) Services ensuring the smooth running of the services day-to-day. The post holder will provide leadership and expert clinical nursing advice in vascular access and management support for both services.
Person specification
Qualifications and Education
* First level registered Nurse with NMC current registration
* Masters level qualification or working towards achieving an equivalent qualification
Previous Experience
* A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment
* Demonstrable success in leading and delivering change and performance
* Broad clinical experience across a range of complex infection prevention and control settings
* Experience of leading an infection prevention and control team or programme
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
* Proven ability to analyse and manage complex problems
* Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively
* Well-developed leadership and influencing skills
* Experience in working with both adults and children
