We will want you to join our journey toward a more environmentally and technically responsible and effective way of delivering energy systems, moving away from conventional processes into a more innovative and free-thinking environment. About Hemiko Hemiko is a fast-growing innovative business which is looking to invest in and deliver over £1bn of heat network projects in the coming years. We fund, design, build, operates and maintain low carbon district energy networks and building energy systems. This work is for communities, towns, and cities. We work with local authorities, developers, house builders, and property owners. We are looking to lead on town and city scale decarbonisation. We recognise that the decarbonisation of heating and the built environment is one of the least known and “solution clear” areas - this is where we are focused and where we will be deploying our investment and our resource. We are an innovative, design and proactive intelligence led company, looking to attract people who think around a problem and past an issue. We want to be at the front end of commercial and technical innovation and are looking for team members to come on that journey. Some of our current projects include: The establishment of the Worthing ESCO, including delivering the design, build, operation and maintenance of the low carbon heat network on an evergreen basis. The design, installation, operating, and funding of a district heating system to serve 3,500 homes in Clapham as part of a major regeneration project. The design, installation, and operation of a new city centre wide low carbon district heating system for the City of Cardiff. The design, installation, and operation of a ground source heat pump system to provide heating and cooling to a new development of 300 homes a gym and office building in South London. The design and installation of a heat network in a rural community in Cambridgeshire to replace oil boilers in 300 homes with centralised low carbon heat generation. Developing detailed long-term decarbonisation plans for existing large scale district heating networks to allow them to transition from gas fired CHP led generation to low carbon generation. Hemiko is absolutely committed to an honest and collaborative approach to all our work, always looking for better ways to do things and avoid the business curses of unnecessary complexity and silos. We are a young, friendly business in the very rapidly growing low carbon energy sector, which provides significant opportunities for career flexibility and development. We focus on delivering bespoke solutions with positive outcomes for the communities we serve. The Role Your responsibilities will be to contribute to a range of pre contract project development activities required to move a potential project lead identified by the business development team through to a technically and commercially viable project bid and eventually contract execution. This is a wide ranging role suited to a candidate with a technical background with the ability to interpret a range of information related to heat networks including contractual, technical, legal, commercial and regulatory. Extracting the key risks and opportunities that need to be further developed to ensure projects that are taken forward to delivery are done so on a thoroughly considered footing. Once information gathering, pricing, commercial/technical assessments and stakeholder engagement has been progressed to inform a project proposal, all to be overseen by the candidate, the candidate will be required to condense the key points into a digestible form so it can be communicated to potential clients, clearly set out in proposals or within grant funding applications. These projects may relate to the Design & Build of new District Energy Networks (DENs), long term Energy Service Company (ESCO) projects, the Operation & Maintenance of existing DENs, or sub-packages of work relating to new large city-wide DEN infrastructure. Prior experience (2 – 5 years) in a technical heat network, utilities or energy industry related role is required. Candidates with backgrounds in design, construction project delivery, commissioning or more commercial project roles would all be considered. An ability to learn and an appetite to develop an understanding of the areas that you do not have experience in is a must, cross departmental considerations being key to this role. You will be guided and mentored as you develop in your role by the Head of Project Development, as well as the wider development team. It would be advantageous for the candidate to have a general understanding of the construction & energy industries, how construction projects are planned & delivered, and how health & safety practices are considered at all stages of a project. The candidate should have an interest in low carbon infrastructure and decarbonising the UK energy supply. You will be required to liaise with the wider project team as well as external stakeholders to gain an understanding of project requirements requiring written, verbal, and in-person communication. We are a young, friendly business in the very rapidly growing low carbon energy sector, which provides significant opportunities for career flexibility and development. Key responsibilities: To include: Assessing tender information including design, programme/delivery requirements, performance requirements, key constraints, proposed contracts (in conjunction with legal counsel) and commercial considerations with a view to ascertain key risks and opportunities for potential heat network projects so they can be eliminated or incorporated into a project proposal High level heat mapping and master planning of heat network schemes, specifically matching key ‘anchor loads’ to low carbon heat sources required to underpin a heat network, using GIS software. Optioneering around potential heat generation options and technologies, liaising with designers and specialist equipment suppliers as required Contribution to technoeconomic modelling of schemes to ascertain commercial viability. The role will require extensive use of ESCO commercial models in excel format, so high proficiency in excel is a must. Development of high level programmes and risk registers Assessing potential opportunities for Heat Network Schemes including demand, future growth, types of connections in a certain location, low carbon heat sources, potential cost of heat Consideration of key specifications that a project must meet (such as the requirement to be compliant with the CIBSE CP1 code of practice) Liaising with all stakeholders as required in the pre contract stages of a heat network project including: Design Engineers, Architects, Estimators, Developers, Specialist Consultants, Contractors, Legal Firms and Planning Authorities amongst others. Liaising with clients to develop solutions that meet the required objectives Considering wider policy implications on how projects may be developed, such as the implementation of heat network zoning, local planning policies, SAP and building regulations updates. Considering the impact of the wider context of UK energy supply on project proposals, such as the costs of gas and electricity and the likely decarbonisation trajectory of the national grid Working closely with the estimating team to ensure projects are being priced to reflect the objectives of schemes. Working closely with the operations team to ensure the proposals being put forward can be operated and maintained as required. Assisting the business development team in writing project bids and project briefs/specifications Contributing to the development of feasibility assessments for the decarbonisation of existing heat networks or areas with potential for the delivery of heat networks Contribution to the development of funding applications such as the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) for supporting various eligible projects Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications Formal qualifications in engineering / or a related discipline to degree level or equivalent.
