What skills and experience we're looking for
You will join an experienced art department that offers a wealth of expertise. Led by a Head of Subject with over 20 years experience of working in secondary schools in the Barnsley area, alongside a passionate ECT, both are committed to driving standards to the next level.
The Art department at Shafton has 3 very well-resourced rooms. Every classroom has a visualiser and these are used extensively by the team in frequent and highly effective episodes of guided practice to develop strong procedural knowledge and confidence for independent and deliberate practice.The KS3 Art curriculum prepares students for the KS4 qualifications of AQA Art and Design (Fine Art), AQA Art and Design (Graphic Communication), AQA Art and Design (Photography).
The department produces outstanding outcomes, with relentless ambition to improve on previous years. Many of our students go on to study art at college and university. In addition we have been successful in recent years within the OGAT Artist of the year award that has seen numerous Outwood Academy Shafton students’ work displayed in the Hepworth Gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The team are also leading the way by organising this exciting event this year.

Teaching and learning is exceptionally led across the academy by a team of experienced SLT team and middle leaders who ensure a curriculum for our students which will set them up for lifelong success.
