They design, build, and run government digital services. They are responsible for the way we find, access and use data and for the technology infrastructure which support those services. There are currently about 25,000 people working in the Profession. The DDaT profession in the Welsh Government supports a range of digital services across the whole organisation. As part of our DDaT profession, you will be a key part of the Digital Learning Division and will make a significant and direct contribution for the people of Wales. Background The Welsh Government is the devolved government for Wales with an annual budget of around £15 billion. We are responsible for key aspects of public life in Wales including health, education, the economy, transport, agriculture, and the environment. Welsh Ministers are supported by a workforce of more than 5,000 people with offices in Wales, London and overseas. Job description Team/Division Overview The Minister for Education has made a firm commitment to improve Education Technology (EdTech) across Wales through the Hwb EdTech programme. This pivotal education programme provides stakeholders across Wales with consistent access to a wide range of centrally-funded, bilingual digital content and services that can support and assist the transformation of digital education practices. Dedicated to providing the very best education to learners across Wales, the Welsh Government champions the use of digital technologies, combined with sound pedagogy, to make a substantial difference to the quality of learning opportunities. Wales is acknowledged as a global leader in the delivery of digital learning services by global partners such as Microsoft and Google. Role We are looking for a User Researcher who is passionate about user-centred design to support the work of the Hwb team. Hwb is a complex service with a large and diverse user base, with a range of different needs and outcomes. As a User Researcher on the Hwb Team, you will plan and carry out research activity related to the Hwb product. This will include providing information on methods of research and user needs, as well as end to end project support for services or projects that require professional user research input for the Hwb Service. This could include helping teams map out their user research requirements and plan for a particular project, to planning research to support a particular time limited piece of work. You will play a key role in supporting wider organisational capability building - organising workshops and events and maturing our internal and external UR/UX community networks. Were interested in people who have: experience of advocating for user research and engaging colleagues and stakeholders. the ability to help teams adopt user centred design and delivery practices, and embed them into their agile workflow. the ability to understand the problems a team is trying to solve, and align user research activities to inform decision making and action. experience of helping teams adopt a wide range of user research methods, analysis and synthesis techniques and approaches to presenting and sharing findings. experience guiding colleagues in the choice of effective application in research methods. the ability to include all kinds of users in appropriate research activities to help teams understand the diversity of users of government services. a good understanding of the social and technological context for government services, and experience of aligning user research activities to help teams understand changing user behaviour. Planning, designing, and carrying out a range of user research activities to support the Hwb project or any associated projects with the support of colleagues/ team members. Understanding the context of Hwb, and showing awareness of the importance of understanding the users perspective in designing and delivering effective services. Developing an overarching UR plan that supports and underpins the product roadmap, including additional stakeholder requirements to ensure that effective. research campaigns are delivered within appropriate timescales. Designing and delivering knowledge that builds organisational capability on user research and user centred practices. Advocating user centered design and championing inclusive research and accessible design. Considering data sitting behind any new research requests that are received by the team to ensure that we are following a data driven methodology. Your role will form part of Welsh Governments Digital, Data and Technology profession. You will have the opportunity to work with multiple projects and programmes across all areas of Welsh Government, with staff at all levels including senior staff, Ministers, and our Digital Apprentice cohort. You will help build and improve links and collaboration within the cross-government Digital, Data and Technology community. A reserve list may be held for this opportunity.
