About the Role
Vital Human Resources is seeking Safeguard Patrollers to maintain a visible, reassuring presence on railway stations across Central Scotland. In this hands-on position, you will engage with the public, offer support to those who may be vulnerable, and respond calmly to any incidents. Your empathetic approach and ability to work under pressure will help ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactive Patrolling: Conduct frequent patrols on foot and via mobile units to ensure passengers feel safe and supported
- Engagement & Support: Identify individuals at risk or in need of assistance (e.g., mental health concerns)
- Incident Response: Follow established procedures when dealing with vulnerable individuals or emergencies, liaising with partner agencies and authorities as necessary
- Accurate Reporting: Record incidents and observations clearly and concisely
- Public Interaction: Answer questions, provide directions, and act as a friendly, approachable presence for all railway users

- Calm Under Pressure: Able to remain composed and act decisively during crises or high-stress moments
- Excellent Communication: Clear verbal and written skills
- Professionalism & Reliability: Punctual, trustworthy, and able to work to procedures and protocols
- Flexibility: Willingness to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, to meet operational demands
Ideal Background & Requirements
- Vetting: Must be able to pass Security Industry Authority (SIA) vetting (an SIA license is an advantage)
- Experience with People: Whether you’re a retired or former police officer, have worked in community support, or have experience in mental health or social care, your background in dealing with people is highly valued.
- Railway Experience (Beneficial, Not Essential): Any familiarity with rail operations is a plus, but we’ll provide comprehensive training to the right person
- Safety & Risk Awareness: Comfortable adhering to health and safety regulations and station guidelines
Terms
- Regular hours, min 32hrs per week (avg. 40)
- Good rates of pay, company vehicle
