Meraki Talent are working with a leading banking firm who are looking to appoint an experienced Banking Lawyer. This is an unique opportunity to work at the heart of one of the UK’s leading banks, providing critical legal advice on current and future product offerings within Business Banking. This role will be working alongside an established legal team, offering support and advice on a wide range of products and services. You will play a crucial role in identifying and managing legal risk, advising on regulatory changes, and ensuring business banking activities remain compliant with all relevant laws and regulations. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance. Provide proactive legal advice and support to the consumer banking division, covering regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and risk management. Represent the bank in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations. Draft, review, and update legal documents in line with contractual arrangements policy. Conduct legal research to stay abreast of changes in relevant laws and regulations. Design and deliver training programs to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements. Identify, communicate, and advise on applicable laws, rules, and regulations (LRRs), ensuring they are accurately reflected in internal policies and controls. Requirements: Solicitor or barrister qualified in the UK or an equivalent Commonwealth jurisdiction. Prior experience working in a law firm and/or in-house with a financial services organisation. Expertise in business banking, financial services regulation, and unsecured lending. Strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills. Desirable Skills: Regulatory expertise in wider financial services, including EU regulations (e.g., Consumer Credit, Data Protection). Experience contributing to policy creation and control frameworks. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes. Awareness of legal and non-legal risk issues, with the ability to escalate when necessary. Leadership Expectations: Set strategy, plan resources, and drive recommendations for change. Influence key stakeholders and senior management, contributing to both functional and cross-functional initiatives. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Collaborate with business-aligned support areas, staying connected to business strategies and goals. Manage and mitigate risks while strengthening control frameworks.
