Position: Mechanical Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer - Water
Location: Southampton
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 (Depending on Experience)
Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominately in the water industry, delivering a number of water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects for Southern Water. They are recruiting for a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer for one of their major projects near Southampton.
You will report directly to the Project Manager and assist the Project/Construction Manager in coordinating an effective and economic plant design and procurement strategy; ensuring information is issued in time to enable construction, commissioning, and putting to work in line with the Contract Programme; providing cost data for forecasts and evaluation of variations.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensure project costs do not exceed tender/varied allowance
2. Ensure all applications for payment are made on or before the due date
3. Ensure contract reviews and monthly forecasts are completed and submitted on time
4. Assist with the Project Management strategy
5. Assist in the production of the contract programme; monitor programme and produce progress reports
6. Provide data for the timely production of O&M manuals
7. Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers
8. Liaise with site management on design and procurement issues
9. Monitor subcontract performance
10. Assist in the preparation of the construction completion and take over documentation
11. Work closely with design departments to ensure timely progression of quality solutions
12. Evaluate innovative solutions and processes
13. Contribute to risk and opportunity schedules on a monthly basis
14. Ensure designs are developed which are safe to construct, commission, operate, and maintain
15. Undertake design reviews and analysis against submissions from internal and external providers
16. Provide engineering experience and knowledge of mechanical design and installations and ensure adherence against the Southern Water engineering standards
17. Complete the capitalisation process
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
1. Mechanical engineering background
2. Working knowledge of various conditions of contract especially NEC
3. Engineering/Technical qualification (HNC minimum) required
4. Experience of supply chain expedition
5. Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes
6. CDM & Health & Safety knowledge
Desirable:
1. Relevant professional qualification an advantage
2. Electrical/Civil knowledge
3. Collaborative approach
4. Previous Southern Water experience beneficial but not essential
