We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to play a crucial role in the development and delivery of our Linux-based embedded systems. This is a chance to work on projects deployed on Royal Navy ships and submarines, making a real difference in the field of defence technology. In addition to this, as our Linux Systems Engineer you will be responsible for: Configuration, integration and testing of real-time systems and software components; Configuring and maintaining Linux operating system images for a range of specialist applications; Linux device driver installation, optimisation and testing; Linux kernel configuration, compilation, optimisation and testing; Installing operating system images and Kaon bespoke software onto embedded systems and testing; Assembling and configuring systems utilising server grade hardware; Undertaking testing, acceptance and accreditation processes on production systems; Coordinating with software engineers to specify operating system requirements and create OS images; Configuring operating systems for security and optimal network and resource performance; Ensuring operating systems are secure; Monitoring security patch releases and applying as necessary; Specifying hardware requirements and identifying suitable hardware components; Providing support to Linux based development software development resources. Please note that due to the nature of Kaon's work this post is office-based and only open to UK Nationals who are willing and able to satisfy Government / MoD security vetting procedures. In order to be successful in this role you must have: At least 8 years of experience working with Linux systems; In depth knowledge and familiarity with the Linux operating system and adept in its usage; Understanding of programming with C/C++; Experience and interest in working with server grade hardware; Linux command line for OS and network configuration, resource optimisation and software installation; Understanding of Linux device drivers; Understanding of Linux security and configuration; Familiarity of the differences between Debian and Red Hat based distributions Understanding of common networking protocols; Have an adaptable and flexible attitude and take pride in your work; Shell scripting; Appropriate higher or further education technical qualification in computer systems.
