The BASF Agricultural Specialities Limited production site in Littlehampton produces industry leading biological pest control products formulated from beneficial nematodes. These products are used by farmers and growers across the globe in agricultural, protected ornamental and home and garden markets.
We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to join our team, who will define and drive operational excellence while ensuring safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across diverse fermentation processes.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
* As a member of the site leadership team, this position will be responsible for defining production objectives, goals and plans to support the site strategy and objectives, review progress against operational plan and implement contingencies where necessary to achieve operational targets.
* Responsible for the day to day and strategic leadership of production across a portfolio of different species and multiple fermentation steps, ensuring safe and efficient operations, in compliance with all regulatory and company requirements. Here the planning of the batch production process is important.
* Ensure all EHS and quality compliance standards are consistently met, including company requirements and those of external regulators and accrediting bodies. Working within the site leadership team, develop and continuously improve all necessary site rules, policies, programs, and protocols to ensure that company activities protect individual health, safety and the environment.
* Lead, motivate and develop teams of direct and indirect reports, by ensuring clear communication of site strategies and responsibilities, while fostering engagement through effective collaboration with all departments on site.
* Drive continuous improvement in production reliability and efficiency by applying lean management concepts, automation, and digitalization, while providing technical guidance to production and process teams for the development of innovative solutions and new products.
* Maintain and enhance the site’s commercial reputation for on-time and complete delivery by understanding external customer relationships and supporting the asset management team in successfully executing capital projects related to production processes.
WHAT YOU OFFER
* You will hold a degree or equivalent in a technical or scientific discipline, e.g. Biotechnology, Chemical or Process Engineering, and preferably have detailed scientific and practical experience in the field of fermentation processes and biological products gained in a production environment.
* Strong leadership skills gained in a manufacturing environment are essential. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to lead, motivate and develop teams to deliver excellence, using your excellent communication and engagement skills.
* Strategic thinker with tenacity and resilience in a challenging and changing environment is equally important; you will be able to recognise when change is necessary and have the confidence, credibility and strength to lead the necessary operational and/or people changes.
* Have the ability to structure, plan and prioritize all production and process development activities through the application of lean management methodologies and other concepts.
