An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to apply for the post of Clinical Educator for Preceptorship within the corporate Clinical Education and Practice Development team at University Hospitals Sussex (mainly based on the Worthing and Southlands sites with one day per week in Brighton). This role is a great opportunity for an experienced registered nurse with excellent interpersonal and clinical skills to support and coordinate the development of education programmes for newly registered nursing staff. They will coordinate educational activities and assessments of learning within the department, working in conjunction with clinical educators and managers throughout the Trust.
The post holder will liaise closely with the Senior Clinical Educator for Preceptorship, helping to deliver the preceptorship module. They will provide clinical leadership and support to all newly registered nurses (RNs), newly registered internationally educated nurses (IENs) and newly registered nursing associates (NAs) in their clinical environments and the classroom.
Experience of teaching and mentoring is essential with evidence of ongoing personal and professional development.
Main duties of the job
* To work collaboratively and support the Senior Clinical Educator for Preceptorship and corporate Clinical Education and Practice Development Team in delivering the NMC standards for education and the HEE Quality Framework standards.
* To respond to clinical education and practice development requirements within the department and within the Trust working closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in their implementation.
* To support the advancement of knowledge and skills using approved learning and assessment procedures.
* Ensuring the clinical area is a positive learning environment through acting as an expert resource; ensuring local training resources are appropriate and up to date.
* To triangulate learning opportunities for newly registered RNs, NAs and IENs in collaboration with patient safety / harm free care ensuring governance and quality assurance.
* To manage the effective performance of newly registered staff in the standardisation of core competencies and robust assessment techniques.

Service Delivery and Improvement
To facilitate the learning and continuing development of newly registered clinical staff ensuring that education is responsive to service developments. Work alongside learners delivering clinical care. Use coaching/mentoring-style techniques during contact time with learners to identify learning needs, improve standards, and escalate concerns where appropriate. Assisting with and supporting assessment of learners in practice. To develop planned educational programmes and opportunities. To participate in teaching and learning opportunities, utilising TEL for delivery. To advise staff in relation to educational opportunities and professional development. To create, sustain and support an environment where practice development and change can flourish. To initiate and respond to evaluations and feedback to improve education provision in terms of content and delivery. To be responsible for booking courses / programme administration in the absence of designated administration staff. To facilitate courses such as ensuring resources are prepared. To manage own time to ensure balance between education, clinical and administrative activities and duties are fulfilled. Supporting with recruitment and retention initiatives including interviewing and recruitment days. Supporting workforce planning for the division by producing appropriate educational data or reports requested by management. To assist in the process of ensuring multi-disciplinary training to meet specific initiatives.
