Main duties of the job
Job Summary:
The postholder will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks contributing to patient care. This includes registration of new patients, prescriptions enquiries, and bookings of routine/urgent appointments. You will also provide administrative support to the doctors and other healthcare professionals to deliver effective services.
* Making daily bookings of urgent and routine appointments via AccuRx and telephone.
* Carrying out a variety of administration duties including registration of new patients, ordering repeat prescriptions, preparing administration letters, and allocating lab reports.
* Responding to tasks sent via Docman and AccuRx.
* Monitoring and responding to emails received to the generic Practice email account.
* Communicating and providing clerical support to a variety of staff including GPs, pharmacists, admin, and reception.
* Initiating outgoing telephone calls to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
* Maintaining the computer clinic system in an accurate and secure manner.
* Assisting with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
* Providing cover for members of the administrative team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
* Covering Reception if required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education.
* Grade C - GCSE English and Maths or equivalent qualifications.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Team player.
* Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative.
* Excellent telephone manner.
Experience
* Computer literate with good IT skills.
* Working in an NHS/General Practice background.
* Experience of Choose and Book system.
* Experience of Docman system.
* Experience of using the EMIS computer system.
* Knowledge of Lexacom Dictation system.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
