Applications are invited for this post, which will provide training in all aspects of spinal surgery including adult, paediatric, spinal sarcoma, deformity, and acute disorders, as well as providing opportunities for research into spinal disorders. The posts are available to commence in either August 2025 or after April 2026 for 12 months.
Previous experience of Spinal Surgery is essential and applicants must possess part 2 FRCS (or equivalent). The duties of the post will be adjusted to suit the particular experience and training requirements of the successful candidate.
Main duties of the job
These posts are created to provide training in all aspects of spinal surgery and opportunities for research in spinal disorders. The balance of the post can be adjusted depending on the requirements of the appointee. For a senior appointee, advanced training in adult and paediatric spinal surgery will be available including spinal deformity from both an orthopaedic and neurosurgical perspective, as well as Spinal Sarcoma training. The post can be adjusted to provide more basic training in orthopaedic spinal surgery with additional sessions for research into spinal disorders.

Job responsibilities
Teaching and Research:
The posts will have a commitment to the teaching and training of undergraduates, postgraduates, and PAMs as appropriate to the experience of the post holder.
Opportunities exist for clinical and basic science research within the constraints of the clinical elements of the job. The preparation of work for the specialist societies and peer-reviewed journals is encouraged.
Location of Duties:
The post holder will work mainly at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Part 2 FRCS (or equivalent)
* Satisfactory completion of Foundation Training or equivalent.
* Evidence of smooth progression through training programmes.
* GMC Registration at time of application.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
* Previous experience of Spinal Surgery.
* Good History and examination skills.
* Able to manage common medical emergencies.
Maintaining Clinical Competence
* Can show evidence of attendance at relevant courses/conferences.
* No large unexplained gaps in clinical training.
Teaching
* Can demonstrate regular commitment to teaching (e.g., students/health care professionals).
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research
* Experience of audit projects.
