Job Title: Deputy Manager to cover maternity leave
Location: B37 area
Salary: £15 an hour plus £50 per sleep-in
Hours: Full-time - 165 hours a month
Reports to: Homes Manager and Responsible Individual
Job Summary:
The Deputy Manager plays a vital role in supporting the Registered Manager to lead and manage an Ofsted-regulated children’s home. The home provides care and support for children and young people with learning disabilities, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that promotes their development and well-being. The Deputy Manager will contribute to achieving outstanding care standards, regulatory compliance, and the personal growth of the young people in the home.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
* Assist the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring it operates effectively and complies with Ofsted standards.
* Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of support workers, ensuring they provide high-quality, individualised care.
* Act as the home’s manager in the absence of the Manager.
Safeguarding & Child Welfare
* Ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people, maintaining a strong safeguarding culture.
* Follow and implement all safeguarding policies and procedures, responding to concerns promptly and effectively.
* Promote the physical, emotional, and social development of children with learning disabilities, tailoring support to their individual needs.
Regulatory Compliance
* Ensure the home operates in line with Ofsted regulations, Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, and Quality Standards.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date care plans, risk assessments, and other documentation.
* Participate in inspections and audits, implementing recommendations to continuously improve the service.
Care Delivery
* Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people, advocating for their rights and needs.
* Develop and oversee personalised care plans, ensuring goals and outcomes are regularly reviewed and achieved.
* Support children to engage in education, social activities, and therapeutic interventions.
Training & Development
* Identify training needs within the team and ensure all staff receive appropriate development opportunities.
* Provide ongoing mentoring and performance appraisals to staff members.
* Stay updated on best practices in care for children with learning disabilities.
Operations
* Assist with staff rotas, recruitment, and resource allocation to meet the needs of the home.
* Manage budgets and ensure financial resources are used effectively.
Person Specification:
Essential
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
* A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting.
* Strong understanding of learning disabilities, safeguarding, and child development.
* Knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
* Leadership and team management experience.
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
Desirable
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
* Experience working in an Ofsted-regulated environment.
* Knowledge of therapeutic approaches to support children with learning disabilities.
