Job Overview
We have an exciting opportunity at Wythenshawe Hospital. We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated Trainee Biomedical Scientists who have experience within the Histopathology department and a passion for clinical excellence, quality, and a drive for career development.
The post holder will act as a registered Biomedical Scientist who provides scientific services to patients and clients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a wide range of complex procedures for the department, performing a range of manual and semi-automated tests using scientific knowledge and experience to comment upon and validate the results of those tests.
Suitable candidates will require an IBMS approved degree.
The department opening hours are 7am - 7pm, Monday to Friday at all sites, and a 6-day working week with a Sunday shift worked on rotation, 8am - 4pm.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake specialist clinical technical investigations for the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease. They will have a multi-section role working in specimen reception, cut up, main laboratory, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and ophthalmic sections of the laboratory.
The post holder may be expected to work across both ORC and Wythenshawe sites. The post holder will assist the advanced biomedical scientist team leaders in supervising sections of the department providing advice on a range of technical issues and will contribute towards training support staff and more junior biomedical scientists.

Essential criteria
* IBMS accredited Biomedical Sciences degree (or other degree accredited with IBMS)
* Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
* Working towards the IBMS registration portfolio
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of using a Quality management System
* Good understanding of Health and Safety requirements within the scope of practice
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of basic pathology and scientific principles relevant to Histopathology
* Basic IT knowledge
