Description National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our team within North West Operations. The Senior Engineer will lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification of asset needs and development of early solutions for the asset class in scope, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards; the role may be required to work unsociable hours. You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving license with no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment Please note that this is a hybrid position and can be based from any of our offices within the North West to include Warrington, Penrith or Preston. What you’ll be leading on Lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria. Lead the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs. Develop the Region’s asset needs requirements and initial solutions and delivers technical design solutions and specifications. Monitor the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues. Ensure that asset data and condition information is captured and maintained in the relevant database(s), in line with agreed standards and timescales. Develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractors for improvement and renewals work. Provide technical support to Project Managers by providing materials approvals, vetting of contractors’ compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing of Health and Safety Files. Undertake technical reviews of third-party designs to ensure that they comply with standards, design briefs and design for maintenance requirements. To be successful A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and member of a relevant professional Body with appropriate experience Degree in relevant discipline, Higher National Diploma, or Higher National Certificate with relevant experience, or equivalent experience. Strong knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling. Expert knowledge of asset specific Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network. Understanding of the Value Management process and/or cost benefit analysis of schemes is desirable. Experience in highways infrastructure design, AutoCAD is desirable. Experience in highway construction and delivery methods. Knowledge of pavement, vehicle restraint systems & road traffic sign assets is desirable A bit about us Operations is at the heart of keeping the strategic road network moving and ensuring our customers get the best possible experience when using our roads.
