Meadows School is a successful non-maintained day special school (for students aged 7-19) run by Barnardos, providing education for pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health difficulties; Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Speech and Language difficulties and associated learning difficulties.
We are looking to recruit a creative, dynamic and inspirational teacher for a unique role within special education. You will have a good working knowledge of the English curriculum and relevant specifications up to KS5. We acknowledge that this covers both a primary and secondary curriculum and therefore requires a special skill-set. As such, we are looking for someone who is willing to become confident in the assessment criteria and curricula demands this presents. We are looking for someone to become a resilient practitioner who is able to command the requirements of such a broad curriculum and lead English across the school. You may not yet be an existing subject lead, or even work within special education; however, Meadows is an excellent school to develop your skills professionally and build an exciting career.
We are looking for someone who is able to adopt a flexible and solution-focused approach in teaching both challenging and vulnerable students. It is imperative that you have the passion for making a difference to the education and lives of the young people within the school and in building positive and supportive relationships. You should be a team player, resilient and motivated by challenge and have the ability to think creatively. You will need to be willing to work to Barnardos Basis and Values.
You will need to be an inspiring practitioner, who is able to deliver a differentiated curriculum to students who are disengaged, with depressed literacy and numeracy skills and low self-esteem. You would need to be fit and able to conduct TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) holds and physical restraints, once fully trained. You will work within a dedicated team, where a proactive and flexible approach is required. The maximum number of students on roll is 100, split over 4 key-stages.
