About Us
The NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and hosted by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with King's College London. We are based at King’s Denmark Hill Campus.
We bring together scientists, clinicians, allied health professionals, service users and carers from across South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London.
Our leadership group consists of clinicians and academics working in mental health, neurology, novel therapeutics and informatics.
Our Service User Advisory Group guides our research priorities and activities, and we are managed and governed by an Executive Board, Management Committee and external independent Scientific Advisory Board.
We are also part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.
About The Role
The Events and Administrative Support Officer will manage and coordinate a portfolio of internal and external events. This is a varied role, with the post holder acting as a point of contact for enquiries to the NIHR Maudsley BRC and processing them accordingly and additionally providing office support. They will also be responsible for organising BRC board and management meetings and occasional diary management.
The role holder will work with diverse stakeholders on events for internal and external audiences, the majority at the Denmark Hill Campus, with virtual events and off-site as required. They will manage all aspects of each event from conception through to review, ensuring that the event runs smoothly, and they are delivered to a first-class standard to promote reputational impact. Events will range from smaller-scale BRC-based events including training workshops and focus group meetings, to larger scale forums, launches, conferences and public engagement activities with influential speakers and attendees.
The role would suit someone who has excellent organisation skills, experience in project management and who is able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
The role holder will report into the Senior Communications and Engagement Manager (job share). The role holder may need to work irregular hours on occasion in accordance with the needs of the role. King’s supports a hybrid approach to working, where possible, which means that staff may work a portion of their working week on campus and a portion of their working week from home.
This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 November 2027.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria
* Strong knowledge and skills in event management acquired through relevant posts.
* Experience of managing a diverse portfolio of events from smaller scale events to larger scale conferences that may have reputational impact.
* Strong customer service focus with experience of successfully working with a wide variety of stakeholders to deliver successful events.
* Proficient IT skills (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft teams) and experience of utilizing digital technology in day-to-day work.
* Proven good communication and interpersonal skills in order to receive, understand and relay information of varying complexity to various groups.
* Effective at working independently, and as part of a team, able to take own initiative & decisions with a proactive approach to problem solving.
* Committed to principles of culture, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of working in higher education and an awareness of current challenges in the sector.
* An understanding of life sciences sector and ability to work with individuals with lived experience.
* Working knowledge and experience of financial management in a large organisation (including the applying of regulatory policies and procedures).
* Experience of working in a wider communications role/understanding of how events fit into a wider communications strategy.
* Experience of analysing event feedback forms and presenting data on this for reports.
