We have an exciting opportunity for a Data & GIS Technician to join the Drainage and Wastewater Plan (DWMP) team within Strategy & Regulation at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our regulators and customers. Could this be you?
What we do:
Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we ensure that over 5.4 million people living in the region can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap, and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it's so much more than this.
We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment, and changing expectations from customers mean that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.
Working in the DWMP Team, the Data and GIS technician will work on our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan, our 25-year, long-term investment strategy for our wastewater assets. Working alongside our Environmental Modelling and Hydraulic Modelling teams, this role is an exciting opportunity to get involved in planning for future environmental improvements.
You will have the opportunity to develop and shape our technical process documents and ensure robust data architecture supports the DWMP. You will work with our internal teams and external partners to ensure the DWMP has strong data foundations. You will work throughout the cyclical DWMP process to ensure data is central to the DWMP's production and annual review.
Where you fit in:
The Modelling Data & GIS Technician is responsible for supporting the delivery of our DWMP. The technician will support the team to collate, analyse and present data from multiple internal and external sources. It is expected that this will include organising the data in a manner that can be used to support decision-making by internal and external colleagues, and as part of this will develop and document a robust auditable methodology for the sharing of information.
You will -
* Identify, collate, visualise and share data required to support the delivery of the DWMP.
* Collate and coordinate data to feed into the DWMP to ensure standardised data formats and robust data architecture.
* Analyse complex datasets to identify trends and communicate outcomes both internally and externally.
* Analyse DWMP data and be responsible for making it available in a GIS format.
* Support in developing digital interfaces for DWMP outputs to ensure they are accessible across the business.
* Support the team in identifying improvements to the DWMP policies and processes.
* Supply/facilitate the supply of data required from Yorkshire Water to enable contract partners to carry out DWMP activities.
* Provide support to contract partners regarding understanding and use of base data provided from Yorkshire Water or Yorkshire Water systems.
* Check the data returned by contract partners and ensure it is fit for purpose; work with the contractor to rectify any issues that arise during the DWMP programme.
* Contribute towards technical innovation.
* Work closely with and be available to support the broader Drainage and Wastewater team including Modelling and Data and Environmental Modelling Teams to align data structures and requirements.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
* Educated to minimum A level or Tech level
* Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Experience of report and presentation writing and the ability to clearly communicate ideas and concepts
* Self-driven with an ability to identify and source data sets from both internal and external stakeholders to support analysis and decision-making
* Strong data manipulation and analytical skills, with an eye for detail
* Proficient in the use of IT systems including Excel and ArcGIS. Experience in FME, PowerBI or Python would also be beneficial.
* Has a positive attitude to solving problems
* Rigorous attention to detail to ensure 'right first time' performance
* An ability to work on your own initiative and manage own workload to support the Drainage and Wastewater Management Planning team.
Although our assets are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the company is committed to support flexible work patterns and job share options, where possible, to give you more control over your time and responsibilities.
