Interim Highways Engineers/Inspectors

Key Requirements:
1. Experience in highway inspection of construction/repair work completed.
2. Experience of carrying out inspections.
3. Experience of carrying out site inspections, preparing surveys, cost estimates and feasibility studies.
4. Highway, road construction, bridges, drainage and paving inspection experience is preferred.
5. The candidate must have a relevant certificate in Highway Inspection (Legal/Technical/Health & Safety/Practical assessment).
6. The successful candidate will carry out safety inspections of highways, managing minor repairs, and responding to service requests from residents.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Issue works orders within agreed programmes and delegated limits for repairs identified in the course of the safety inspections.
2. Inspect work by contractors and statutory undertakers, checking for quality and quantity and materials as per specification.
3. Assist in the production of contract documents.
4. Produce estimates and carry out measurements for costing purposes.
5. Carry out site measurements and inspection preparatory to payment and approval of contractors' work.
6. Design and supervise minor schemes.
7. Supervise minor maintenance contracts. Initiate works within limits of delegated authority, prepare variation orders for authorisation, check contractor’s accounts and certify payments.
8. Issue instructions and give guidance on site. Stop or reject works on site which violate specification or codes of practice and safety standards. Order minor works within limits of delegated authority.
9. Assist in the supervision of the annual surface dressing programme including monitoring of the budget.
