Our Occupational Therapy Service has recently been redesigned with the aim of creating a more resilient workforce, equipped to manage the complex needs of our patients, and also allow experienced therapists an opportunity to develop their specialist interest and contribute to service developments.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for Occupational Therapy, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT.
You will be responsible for providing a high standard of assessment, advice, treatment, and evaluation of patients referred to the acute inpatient Occupational Therapy Service, including patients with varying presentations and complex physical and psychosocial conditions.
Rotations may become possible within the band 6 peer group according to the evolving nature of the integrated pathways across our acute teams. A flexible and adaptable approach will be necessary to ensure delivery of an excellent OT service across all pathways.

Main duties of the job
* To provide specialist occupational therapy interventions.
* Close working with the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
* Work with clients with complex health and social care needs.
* Provide supervision and leadership for relevant junior members of occupational therapy staff in conjunction with the team leader.
* To participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated specialist team.
* Provide supervision and training for students on practice placement.

Job responsibilities
* To provide specialist occupational therapy interventions using evidence-based, flexible, and patient-centred approach, working within a Multi Disciplinary Team to meet the health and social care needs of people who are referred to our services.
* To perform a specialist occupational therapy role for patients referred to the post holder's clinical team with complex health and social care needs.

Person Specification
Knowledge and experience
* Professional Qualification in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registered.
* Knowledge of the role of an acute OT in the medicine and frailty team and the use of assessment, treatment, and rehab interventions for these patients.
* Varied post-graduate experience in a range of settings including medical or surgical, older person's rehabilitation or a closely related field.
* Experience in the assessment and formulating treatment plans for patients who have complex physical, psychological, emotional, sensory, and social needs using standardised and non-standardised assessment forms.
* To be able to work autonomously as well as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
* To be able to manage under pressure and respond to the rapidly changing demand of the hospital environment, whilst supporting other team members to do the same.
* To be able to provide leadership when the team is under pressure or in the absence of the team lead.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, carers, and colleagues.
* Experience working as an Occupational Therapist in an acute setting.
* Experience of being a practice educator.
* Presentation and training skills.
