Looking for 2 Senior Architects with complex project backgrounds to work on 3 major HS2 Developments - £370m Birmingham Interchange Station (BREAAM excellent standard) & £500m Washwood Heath Depot, signature developments of importance on the High Speed Two programme. Both projects are Birmingham based. Senior Architect will be working for the client organisation HS2, the role reports to and supports the Lead Architect whom you will form a close partnership to steer and mentor the Design & Build Main Contractors and their Design Consultants as the design client interface. Assuring and ensuring the specifications and requirements are being met and that the HS2 Design Vision is applied. HS2’s Architectural Team sits with the infrastructure directorate and totals 10 individuals working across the entire HS2 Programme. Projects £370m Birmingham Interchange Station is truly a landmark station which will be built to BREAAM excellent standard a world first for a railway station, situated on a 150-hectare site, consisting of four 415m platforms & architecturally significant roof. The station will be an integrated transport hub with an Automatic Passenger Mover linking NEC, Birmingham International Station & Birmingham Airport. This project has recently moved to site. £500m HS2 Washwood Heath, Birmingham Depot - The depot is the operational heart of the HS2 network reassembling a university campus is made up of several buildings & areas, including: - Maintenance Building 40,000 square meter, Network Integrated Control Centre (NICC), Cleaners & Drivers Building, Stabling Yard, office accommodation, Staff Welfare facilities. Complex set of buildings with many engineering & architectural challenges. The project is current in design development stage with a move to site in 18 – 24 months. The ability to influence and steer the main contractor and its design partners will be a key skill requirement. Hs2 is the client and therefore not designing the station it will be your role to first ensure specification & requirements are met but also to aide the scheme through planning, design & construction – assisting, advising and enabling good practices and de-risking the project. This is a relentlessly interesting project with huge selection of stakeholders and with large challenges not least constant change. Working Relationship – Co-located & Hybrid Birmingham Interchange station has recently started construction, the client team are working alongside the main contractor (Co-located) in the same site offices. Therefore, the role is site based at Interchange Station (near Birmingham Airport) coupled with Hybrid working (50:50). Washwood Heath Depot is at Design Development stage, you will be based from HS2 main Birmingham City Centre office for 18-24 months before moving to site – expectation 2 days in the office. Senior Architect £60 – 64,197 Pen (12:6) health 25 hybrid Duties and responsibilities The Senior Architect will support the Lead Architect in all aspects of project delivery. The Lead Architect is the asset discipline technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) for all Architecture and design-related matters for Headhouses, Portals, Bridges and Viaduct structures and other architectural aspects of the HS2 line of route. Support activities will include: - Providing specialist technical knowledge and technical support for the Architecture and design-related disciplines and associated delivery support to the HS2 business. Support the preparation of technical scope input for procurement and help assess tender returns. Review architecture and design-related discipline requirements by the design suppliers in accordance with the specification and requirements required by ID. Responding to architecture Requests For Information. Providing technical input for Planning Application packages and conditions closure. Working with various contractors’ designers to prepare for the formal Independent Design Review Panel reviews and to coordinate responses to recommendations made by the Independent Design Review Panel. Providing support for the integration of the Architecture and design-related disciplines with the other project disciplines and delivery area teams including civil engineering, landscape, rail systems, environment, third party interfaces, and construction logistics and planning etc. Providing a design concept guardian role for the design through its design development and construction. Working with the Phase 1 Engineering Team through detailed design and construction by D&B contractors to ensure project specification and requirements are met. Obtaining design approvals and signoffs. Ensuring safety is a key priority in all aspects of the role. Providing a design custodian role for the HS2 Design Vision. Managing the interfaces across individual delivery units to deliver design consistency. Working within the project team to identify and mitigate risks and capture opportunities. Candidate Criteria You will be flexibale and bright ARB registered Architect with complex project experience open to a wide range of projects: Stations, Depots, Airports, Ports, Shopping Centres, public building, industrial, commercial, University Campuses etc. Interested in Architects looking for a promotion or indeed your next challenge you could be currently working for a Design provide practice, engineering consultancy or already currently client side. You will have advanced interpersonal skills & behaviours to collaboratively influence the integrated project team, whilst navigating a complete internal matrix environment and external stakeholders (including political).. Skills: Ability to produce and present documents and reports to a variety of audiences, including internal stakeholders at various levels in the organisation. Ability to deliver presentations in order to influence a broad audience and a diverse group of stakeholders. Work package development skills. Ability to execute required work packages. Ability to prioritise workload and work streams to meet agreed deadlines. Ability to focus on high quality design, while working on multiple projects. Knowledge: Registered architect (ARB/RIBA) Familiar with relevant architectural and/or engineering standards and be able to interpret in a railway/ transportation environment.
