JOB SUMMARY:
This post is ideally suited for a radiographer wishing to develop their orthopaedic imaging experience. Fortius Clinic Imaging is currently delivered at multiple sites including Fortius Marylebone, Fortius Clinic London, Fortius City, Fortius Wimbledon, and Fortius Surgical Centre.
The Imaging department currently has 3 Siemens scanners: a 1.5T Avanto at Marylebone, a 1.5T Aera at Fortius Clinic London, a 3T Spectra at the City, and a 3T Lumina at Wimbledon. There is a CT Siemens Somatom Scope at Fortius Clinic London, and DR x-ray rooms at Marylebone, City, and Wimbledon. In the new year, we will incorporate a DEXA scanner at the Fortius Clinic London site.
Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 07:00-22:00 and Saturday mornings. The radiographer role will predominantly consist of covering theatre sessions, providing x-ray services at all sites, and assisting with MRI and CT positioning. There is a training plan in place for MRI and CT, and we anticipate the radiographer will be fully trained in both modalities over the course of 18 months.
A wide variety of patients will be encountered, including elite sportsmen and women and VIPs. All patients are to be treated with courtesy and professionalism. Confidentiality must always be strictly maintained; any breach will result in immediate dismissal.

We also provide an orthopaedic imaging service for children over 5 years.
The post-holder will undergo a comprehensive induction/training period, working with senior training radiographers and the lead radiographer. They will develop specialised knowledge and expertise, producing high-quality images to assist in diagnosis and treatment while demonstrating high standards of care.
The responsibilities will also include occasional supervision of agency/bank staff in service delivery, managing workflow, and ensuring all data inputs are recorded for patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes. They must exhibit a high professional and technical standard and adapt to different learning environments, maintaining a high level of technical and theoretical skills through personal CPD. Participation in governance of the department in areas including risk management, health and safety, research, and audit activities is also required.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintain HCPC registration.
* Liaise with referral sources for clarification on imaging examinations.
* Act as a point of advice for imaging referrers.
* Ensure the safety of all patients and personnel within the MRI, CT, theatre, and x-ray department.
* Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts before, during, and after examinations.
* Ensure patients receive a high standard of care.
* Acquire diagnostic images and position patients accurately for examinations.
* Match clinical indications to appropriate departmental protocols.
* Operate advanced software on specialist radiological equipment.
* Review images and consider supplementary imaging procedures.
* Offer good clinical judgement in assessing and interpreting images.
* Ensure timely and accurate presentation of images for reporting.
* Communicate urgent findings and direct patients accordingly.
* Highlight abnormalities noted during scanning to the relevant Clinician or Radiologist.
* Participate in the Fortius imaging service and voluntary out-of-hours service when required.
* Work unsupervised within out-of-hours service arrangements.
* Set up and clear a basic sterile trolley for interventional procedures.
* Participate in patient monitoring or oxygen administration under supervision.
* Ascertain patient suitability for intravenous (IV) contrast media.
* Undertake other duties as required by service demands or the Head of Imaging Services.
* Conduct departmental checks, including quality assurance tasks.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
* Take responsibility for providing high standards of clinical care and patient welfare.
* Position patients accurately and safely for examinations.
* Act as a point of advice for patient enquiries regarding referrals.
* Ensure patients have agreed to exposure to ionising radiation prior to examinations.
* Assess specific communication needs of individual patients.
* Communicate effectively with patients and their escorts.
* Follow infection control policies as required.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
* Report instances of sickness in a timely manner.
* Adapt and respond quickly to changes in service or departmental needs.

* Handle non-accidental injury referrals in line with Fortius policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES
* Care for and safely handle equipment and accessories.
* Record and report equipment faults appropriately.
* Familiarise with current QA measures and perform tests to a high standard.
* Troubleshoot equipment faults and provide suitable service provision.
* Maintain records surrounding equipment events.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING
* Familiarise with technical applications available on imaging equipment.
* Perform equipment testing, quality assurance, and audits when required.
* Manage an area of the department in the absence of senior or lead radiographer.
* Allocate radiographic resources appropriately based on demand.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES
* Ensure timely and accurate presentation of images for reporting.
* Support information dissemination through the department.
* Enter accurate data on med dBase and PACS while ensuring patient confidentiality.
* Monitor and report deficits in data integrity of med dBase and PACS.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
* Participate in the academic programme of the department.
* Engage in CPD and demonstrate commitment to personal development.
* Evaluate own work and practices using Evidence Based Practice.
* Participate in the department’s audit programme.
* Conduct examinations for clinical trials according to protocol.
* Provide pastoral support for new staff.
