This is an exciting opportunity for an eager and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join our inpatient mental health services. The successful applicant will work alongside an established team of psychologists and 1 assistant, this role is to enhance our current service further.
The post will be based on Birch ward at the Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury. Birch ward is a 16 bedded mixed sex acute inpatient mental health unit which assists adults of working age who are suffering with enduring mental illnesses.
The Adult Acute Inpatients service in Shrewsbury provides a service to people admitted to hospital with acute mental health difficulties. Team members work with service users, family caregivers and professional carers. The team consists of Psychiatric Nurses, Support Workers, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Occupational Therapists.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform a range of duties under the direct supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist including:
2. Direct patient contact (including assessment and formulation work)
3. Indirect clinical support e.g. compiling and maintaining educational materials
4. Clinically related administrative support
5. Literature searches and research related activity
6. Audit and research activities
7. Assisting with teaching and training activities as required
8. Assist in the provision of a clinical psychology service to clients referred to the inpatients service.
9. Work independently according to a plan agreed with the Ward Manager and Ward Psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
10. Undertake psychological assessments and a clinical history from newly-referred clients including observation, self-report measures, rating scales, and interviews with patients and significant others.
11. Participate in regular supervision with one or more qualified clinical staff.
12. Help recover service provision following COVID-19 related disruption.
13. Assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.
14. Support colleagues within inpatient mental health services via one-to-one or group intervention.
15. Provide input to therapeutic groups (including on digital platforms) as required.
16. Review case files, depositions etc. where appropriate, analysing that information, providing summaries and reports under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
