An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (3 daysper week (22.5 hours per week)) band 2 radiotherapy / health care assistant tocome and join our friendly team here in the at the Worcestershire OncologyDepartment based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
We are looking for a patient focused individual withexcellent communication skills, who works well as part of a team.
The successful post holder will be working alongsideradiographers, consultants and another health care assistants to ensure thesmooth running of the oncology clinics held within the Worcestershire OncologyDepartment.
As well as carrying out general clinical duties such asescorting patients to/from clinic, you will also be required to carry out otherduties as required such as taking blood samples, carry out simple dressings aswell as some administration duties.
Working days will be Monday, Thursday and Friday, withsome bank holiday working required. The hours you will be required to work willbe dependent on the working hours of the department and will vary between of 8.00amuntil 6pm.
Main duties of the job
Your role as a Radiotherapy / healthcare assistant is to work alongside registered Radiographers and consultant aspart of the department team to provide care to patients.
You will mainly be based in theoncology outpatient area within the oncology centre managing the smooth runningof these clinics. The types of duties mayinclude: helping people to mobilise, assisting patients with toileting,bed-making, generally assisting with patients' overall comfort, monitoringpatients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight,chaperoning patients in clinic, taking patients blood, assisting cliniciansand radiographers in the clinic setting and general duties as required by theradiotherapy department.

Job responsibilities
Additionalaspects of care
Moving and repositioning ofpatients.
Dressing/undressing of patients.
Tying up of dirty linen bags anddespatching to laundry.
Cleaning and tidying examinationrooms/clinic areas.
Makebeds and help to ensure the department is kept clean, tidy and safe
Replenishing (including ordering of)stock / resus trollies.
Assist with patients mobilisation,ensuring safe environment and using appropriate techniques.
Accompany able patients to otherdepartments.
Assist in the care of relatives andvisitors.
Chaperone professional staff whereappropriate.
Measuring body temperature, bloodpressure, pulse rate and respiration and completing the necessarydocumentation.
Measuring patients height andweight as directed by a registered health care professional / clinician andrecording on the appropriate documentation.
Carry out phlebotomy as per ICErequest.
Ensure specimens are send to theappropriate place with the correct paperwork
Be involved in booking in ofpatients into the department area
Be adaptable and flexible to workingin various areas of the department/ward as required.
Assist the multi professional teamto prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigationmaintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
Communicationand relationships
The Healthcare Assistantsrelationship with both staff and patients should be discreet, bearing in mindthat all information regarding patients must be kept confidential.
Report to the radiotherapy servicemanager matters of concern relating to patients and the ward/departmentenvironment.
Answer the telephone, refer toappropriate person.
Attend department reports andmeetings when appropriate.
Be aware of the need to greetvisitors to the department and ascertain the purpose of their visit.
Demonstrate knowledge andunderstanding of health and safety at work in order to maintain a safeenvironment.
Undertake duties outside yourworking area (e.g. delivery and collection) to assist in maintaining goodcommunications.
To ensure the privacy and dignity ofpatients at all times.
Cleaning
Maintain tidiness and cleanliness ofclinic area, bed bay and equipment as instructed.
Undertake a range of clerical dutiesservice, this may involve
oBasic computer skills
oAssist in the preparation of medicaland nursing notes for clinics
oAssist booking co-ordinator asrequired
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working in a patient care setting or customer facing environment
* Experience of working within a healthcare setting/Nursing Home
* Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, phlebotomist or radiology assistant.

* Basic Keyboard/computer knowledge/ skills.
* Able to use trust systems (ICE, Bluespier, Clip, PAS)
Qualifications
* Basic standard of education including Maths and English
* NVQ level 2 in care
