Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
An opportunity has arisen on Willow ward within our Specialist Low Secure Forensic Service for a Staff nurse based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Willow ward is a 20 bedded male rehab unit.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to work as a staff nurse as part of the nursing team. The post holder will be professional, open-minded, and work well as part of a team.
Due to the nature of the unit, successful candidates will be confidential, provide person-centred support, and be able to care for someone in a non-judgemental way.
Some tasks will include administering medication and aiding service users' recovery, which involves working closely with service users on individualised risk reduction work.
Due to Willow ward being a forensic ward, the post holder will require a good understanding of the 3 different types of security (physical, relational, and procedural) to ensure the safety of service users, staff, and visitors. With this in mind, Willow ward follows the model of least restrictive practice.
Increasing service user engagement is a significant part of the role. On Willow ward, individualised care is paramount to ensure they get the right care. Your role will aim to build a therapeutic relationship with service users on the ward and support them in all tasks of daily life to improve their health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within a close team of other staff nurses and healthcare support workers on the ward to ensure safe running of the ward and patient-centred care at all times. The post holder will have the opportunity to work closely with service users as a key nurse and contribute to the wider multi-disciplinary team. This role requires the post holder to be able to document in an accurate and timely fashion.
Due to the nature of forensic mental health working, the post holder will be offered both managerial and clinical supervision and regular support from the team.
This is an opportunity for the post holder to work within a specialist team including a variety of disciplines with a wide range of knowledge and expertise.
Assessing risk is a huge part of being a forensic mental health nurse in all elements of the role such as pre-leave risk assessments, up to completing FACE and HCR-20 risk assessments.
Staff nurses are required to work a regular rotation of night shifts, long days, alternative weekend working, and working bank holidays - including Christmas and New Year.
