We are looking for a Participant and Public Involvement Officer to join our growing Ethics, Compliance and Governance team to support Our Future Health’s participant and public involvement (PPI) function. The role will assist Our Future Health in operationalising our PPI strategy, ensuring that its commitments are upheld; and assist with the coordination of items that are brought to our Public Advisory Board. This role will also be integral to ensuring that members of our newly-established Involvement Network are well-supported, so that they can feed in meaningfully to the activities, questions, and issues that we bring to them.
Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.
What you’ll be doing:
You will advocate for, and promote, the role of participant and public involvement across Our Future Health. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
* Provide administrative, logistical support to Our Future Health’s Senior Ethics and Engagement Manager for our PPI activities.
* Support and coordinate Our Future Health’s Involvement Network (comprised of Our Future Health participants and members of the public), including through working with teams across Our Future Health who wish to engage with the Involvement Network.
* Liaise with members of the Involvement Network, and respond to queries that come through to the Network’s inbox.
* Coordinate and administer adhocPPI activities and events – for example, deliberative dialogues, workshops, or summits.
* Contribute to the implementation and delivery of Our Future Health’s PPI strategy.
* Support teams across Our Future Health to involve our participants in different aspects of our work.
* Work closely with the Ethics Team and Governance Team to provide support for members of Our Future Health’s Public Advisory Board to input and feedback on our activities, as required.
* Maintain records of PPI activities to contribute to wider reporting requirements for Our Future Health.
* Respond to PPI-focused enquiries that are received by our Study Support team.
* Provide administrative support to the involvement function and when required to the wider ethics team.
* Attend meetings and project working groups to represent our PPI function, as required.
* Help Our Future Health demonstrate values of transparency, accountability, trustworthiness, and clarity.
Requirements
You will have hands-on experience of involving research participants, patients, or members of the public in health-related, health-research related, or science contexts. To succeed in this role, you will also have some of the following skills:
* Experience of planning, running and evaluating PPI activities.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in developing effective and meaningful working relationships with PPI contributors and other stakeholders.
* Working knowledge of involvement methodologies, and how they can be drawn on to support programmes of work – particularly in health research contexts.
* Excellent project coordination skills and experience – particularly with respect to coordinating involvement activities and related events.
* Experience with presenting at and facilitating PPI activities and meetings.
* Good understanding of health research contexts, and how PPI can support health research endeavours.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain concepts without using technical language or jargon.
* Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, with a keen attention to detail and ability to multitask.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a complex organisation.
* Ability to prioritise a wide range of demands and requirements; and to manage a workload that has multiple projects running simultaneously.
* Ability to adapt and take initiative in a fast-paced organisation which is scaling rapidly.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant software.
