Our client has an immediate Freelance/Outside IR35 vacancy for an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to oversee the function testing, process commissioning, and reliability testing of their installed equipment.
This role would suit a flexible, enthusiastic, and organised individual with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and water industry background.
Duties & Responsibilities of Electrical Commissioning Engineer:
1. Oversight of electrical, instrumentation, control and automation installation work by the teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
2. Adherence to required standards, policies, and statutory regulations for Health & Safety.
3. Developing full testing, commissioning, and handover plans.
4. Organising, planning, and attending technical meetings with client and contractor stakeholders.
5. Inspection of systems to ensure they are installed, tested, and commissioned to relevant British, ISO, and client standards.
6. Function testing and commissioning of electrical installations, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and automation systems ensuring compliance with the system specifications and best practice.
7. Facilitating analysis of raw and treated samples.
8. Compiling commissioning reports, method statements, and commissioning schedules.
9. Ensuring compliance with relevant electrical standards and legislation.
10. Participating in the troubleshooting of any process performance shortcomings.
11. Remaining in regular contact with the Project Manager, project engineers, Client teams, and supply chain to enable smooth commissioning and handover processes.
12. Compiling support and review of Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
13. Training of site operators in the use of the installed equipment and systems.
14. Other duties as may arise from time to time that are consistent with the job-holder's knowledge and skills, and are needed to effectively perform the role.
Requirements for Electrical Commissioning Engineer:
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Engineering, science, or similar to degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent level.
2. Minimum four years' postgraduate experience in a similar role within the utilities sector and/or M&E engineering environment.
3. Candidates should have extensive experience of industrial/commercial electrical and ICA design, assembly, installation, testing, and commissioning, ideally in the water sector.
4. Experience in specific Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems - including conditioning, conversion, and interpretation plus digital I/O, relay control logic, and instrumentation.
5. Candidates should be electrically qualified to a minimum of 18th Edition, C&G 2391 Inspection & Test, and should ideally hold a current JIB Gold Card.
6. Experience of working as an NIC-EIC Competent Person would be an advantage.
7. Good communication skills, able to interact effectively with Clients and colleagues.
8. Experience within the UK water industry is a distinct advantage.
9. Willingness to be based at the work site, with the potential for travel regionally and nationwide (including overnight stays).
10. Full driving licence; any existing endorsements must be declared in the application.
