Newcastle Chronic Disease Monitoring Service is developing and we would like to recruit a Community Phlebotomist to work across the city.
The role involves domiciliary visits and working in Community base clinics. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in providing a comprehensive Phlebotomy Service to the population of Newcastle upon Tyne across a variety of Primary care settings.
The post holder will also be expected to act as a resource within the CDMS team ensuring the delivery of a safe, high quality and effective Service. They will undertake a broad range of activities, including providing advice to patients and other healthcare staff.
This will be a superb opportunity for the successful applicant to contribute to the continuous development of the service.
Main duties of the job
* To ensure that your responsibilities for the prevention and control of infection are fulfilled by following all Trust guidelines and protocols.
* To arrange delivery to the appropriate laboratories according to current Pathology policy.
* To undertake first line tests on blood samples in accordance with written procedures.
* To respect patient confidentiality and dignity.
* To work in accordance with the procedures and policies of the Trust, in particular Clinical Skills training package (Practice development) and Health and Safety.
* To relate to the Senior Phlebotomist on a regular basis to keep up to date and receive regular training.
Job responsibilities
* To provide a comprehensive phlebotomy service to the population of Newcastle upon Tyne across a variety of primary care settings.
* To perform venepuncture blood collection as requested and to understand the principles and clinical guidelines underpinning chronic disease monitoring.
* To perform POC testing for warfarin monitoring.
* To offer a high standard of care for housebound patients.
Person Specification
KNOWLEDGE
* Basic IT Skills
* Basic understanding of safeguarding
SKILLS
* Effective organisation and time management skills.
* Able to work effectively within a team and under own direction and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Dexterity at a level to perform phlebotomy duties.
* Able to perform venepuncture, POC testing, blood pressure measurement and urinalysis.
* Car owner/driver.
* Use of DATIX system.
* Ability to use 4sDAWN IT system.
EXPERIENCE
* Experience of phlebotomy / venepuncture.
* Ability to plan, prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities.
* Experience of caring in a personal or professional setting.
QUALIFICATIONS
* NVQ Level 3 in appropriate subject (or working towards / on pathway) or equivalent qualification / experience.
* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
* Certificate of phlebotomy.
