F is an autistic 8 year old with autism, additional diagnoses of ADHD and OCD. F has severe sensory processing and language disorders and is only partially verbal. F needs two people with accessing the community, or one person when out in low-stimulus environments in nature. F needs people who can support him calmly and sympathetically and with whom he can build trust over a period of time. He needs people who can learn how to communicate with him clearly, both verbally and visually and through building a relationship of shared understanding. F needs to get out regularly in low-stimulus environments for hard physical exercise to keep him regulated: woods, forests, trails, climbing, scrambling and adventure playgrounds. This will be essential to F’s care mental wellbeing and self-regulation and will be the main feature of his care. The right candidates will be energetic and engaging to be able to keep up with F. This is a year-round position on weekends (Saturday or Sunday – can be flexible). Weekdays (ONLY) during academic holidays (half terms, Easter, Summer and Christmas), and a choice of weekdays as suits during holidays. F likes to do the following things: Long forest or woodland walks and scrambles, paddling in streams, swimming in the ocean, building dens / bridges over water, digging holes, swimming pool visits, going to the park (if quiet), climbing (indoor walls and outdoor i.e. trees/rock faces), caving, being on water (boats / pedaloes), soft play, cooking (with guidance), drawing and writing with chalks outside, and drawing and writing inside on whiteboards and on paper (often laminating them afterwards), having adults help craft large items from cardboard boxes like dens, taking his scooter out.
F experiences extreme difficulty with environments where there is piped music of any nature, so carers will need to work with parents and/or research appropriate locations for visits.
Main Duties
To support child with:
1. Going out for long walks to natural low stimulus environments
2. Support accessing the community
3. Toileting (wiping following pooing)
Essential Criteria
* Experience of working with an autistic Child with ADHD and OCD
* Experience of working with Child who is non/semi verbal
* Experience supporting children outside the home environment for trips / Outings
* Non-smoker
* Must have use of own vehicle. Mileage is included for specific activities
* Candidates must be energetic
Desirable criteria:
* Someone who likes the outdoors and happy to go out in all weathers
Personal Qualities & Attributes Required
* Responsible, reliable, and trustworthy
* Excellent timekeeping
* Some previous PA experience would be advantageous but not essential
* Good communication and social skills
* To respect confidentiality and privacy
Location: Totterdown, Bristol.Hours:
8 contact hours per weekend throughout the year (some hours with second carer as required)
20 hours per week during school holidays (some hours with second carer as required)
Pay: £15.00 per hour.
Holiday: 5.6 weeks per year including bank holidays (pro rata for part time).Start Date: ASAP.Additional Information
