911 EMERGENCY DISPATCH OFFICERS
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced individuals to join our team as 911 Emergency Dispatch Officers in the Communications Division of the Leawood Police Department. 911 Emergency Dispatch Officers play a vital role in both the City of Leawood community as well as the surrounding Kansas City Metro community. Each shift will be different than the last, ranging from helping someone whose house has been broken into to saving the life of someone in distress.

You will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, great at multi-tasking and comfortable making decisions quickly. You will work a 10-hour shift schedule which requires the candidate to be flexible in working during normal business hours as well as nights, weekends, holidays and subject to being called in when needed. Candidates will go through a vigorous training phase during their first year that will provide you with the knowledge and skills to be successful at the role of a 911 Police Communications Officer at the City of Leawood!
Summary of the Position: 911 Emergency Dispatch Officers are responsible for handling the communications operations of the Police Department; duties include receiving calls from the public for emergency and non-emergency assistance and dispatching police units in accordance with procedures.
General Overview of Responsibilities:
* Receives all incoming 9-1-1 emergency calls, non-emergency dispatch calls, and calls on the police administrative lines using proper techniques and procedures.
* Retrieves pertinent information from each emergency and non-emergency call. Accurately communicates pertinent information to the officer in the field by radio, using equipment, codes, and procedures properly to ensure clear, concise, and efficient transmission in the dispatching of a responding officer.
* Conducts record checks including but not limited to criminal and driving, on individuals, vehicles, licenses, and weapons using various computer databases including but not limited to CAD, NCIC and REJIS.
* Responsible for accurately completing, updating and maintaining department paperwork and forms including but not limited to the NCIC database, address database and department employee contact information.
* Responsible for recording and monitoring activity of field units and retrieval and accurate relaying of information contained in various computerized databases to police officers in the field.
* Monitors and shares information coming into the Dispatch Center from a variety of other public safety radio channels as well as surveillance camera feeds.
* Responsible for cancellation and processing of warrants for the Leawood Municipal Court.
Minimum Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a Communications Officer, Police Dispatch or equivalent experience, preferred. Knowledge or prior use of NCIC/REJIS, Niche RMS and Hexagon CAD systems preferred. Must be or be able to become NCIC certified within six (6) months of hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.

The position is eligible to receive merit-based pay increases every year. Employees also receive a Time in Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.
