The Joint Geospatial Intelligence (JGI) team which is part of Joint User for Intelligence and Cyber (JUIntCy) provides the DIRECT and DELIVER functions for Defence GEOINT on behalf of the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) as Function Owner for Intelligence. Intelligence holds a unique place in UK Government, straddling the interface of the Intelligence community and Defence. Job description The JGI Vector Data Standards post holder will be required to lead and coordinate the development and propagation of Geospatial Standards relating to Vector Data as part of the JGI Standards Development Team. This includes Data Models, Schemas, Feature and Attribution Concepts, Product Specifications and Portrayal. You must have expertise in current GEOINT practices and standards. Reporting to the JGI Standards Team Leader and through the Geospatial and Imagery Standards Delivery Group (GISDG) construct, you will lead and influence the development of Defence National and International standards, aiming to maximise MOD interoperability and coherence with other Defence units, Partners Across Government and our Allies while promoting UK policy, and requirements in support of short- and long-term UK Defence lines of development. Responsibilities The JGI Vector Data Standards post holders main responsibilities are: Coordinate and provide DI technical input and support, and customer requirements, in the drafting, development, and review of National and International Defence Policy, Standards and Profiles relating to Geospatial Vector Data Models and associated encoding languages. This includes representing UK Vector Data interests at the Defence Geospatial Information Working Group (DGIWG). Lead the Geospatial Vector Data Model Subgroup of the Geospatial Imagery and Standards Steering Group (GISDG), pulling together geospatial subject matter experts across Defence to enable the management and resourcing of activities relating to the creation, validation and continuous development of Vector Data standards and associated encoding languages. Provide strategic direction and advice to UKStratCom Units and Defence Projects on the implementation of Vector Data related standards and formats (National, International and Alliance) in accordance with UK Defence Policy. Provide the Standards lead for the testing and evaluation of Geospatial Vector Data Standards and associated encoding languages, specifications and profiles. Manage a team of one and their resource to provide input into the development of national and international Portrayal Standards and Specifications in line with UK policy, strategy and priorities and the dissemination of relevant Portrayal information to UK Units. To direct the technical standards development, maintain an awareness and understanding of developments within the wider geospatial standards, data management, geospatial, imagery and IT communities.
