THE ROLE Are you an experienced 1st Assistant Director? Are you someone who has experience managing fast moving production sets and thrives off effective forward planning and being strongly organised? The Casualty team are looking for their next 1st Assistant Director A fast paced BAFTA winning Continuing Drama about the staff and patients at the Holby City Emergency Department, charting the ups and downs in their personal and professional lives whilst tackling many controversial and taboo issues. Through great writing and visual flair the show balances gritty realism with high drama to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, week in week out. As 1st AD, you will report to Rachel Slater the Line Producer Your duties will include the following: - Analyse the script and produce a schedule that meets the creative, budget and Health and Safety requirements and prepare plans for in-studio / on-camera cameras as required Create Risk Assessments for block specific Health and safety actions, and enforce the requirements in the filming environment. Assist in maximizing filming time by efficiently scheduling scenes, ensuring that all schedule changes are communicated Communicate the Director's requirements to members of the production team and the public when required Provide clear, concise and accurate information to the crew, performers and contributors about their roles and responsibilities Direct and lead background activity and directing second units as and when required Monitor and report expenditure against the budget, identifying actual or potential variations to the budget and work with the production team to resolve cost and resource issues Take lead Health and Safety responsibilities on the set and ensure all cast and crew members comply, choosing safe facilities and ensuring staff compliance Manage the Assistant Directors and others who respond directly to you, contributing to career their development Assist the scheduling department and attending planning meetings on early scripts as and when required Contribute to the production review process, analyse the efficiency of schedules, whilst ensuring that learning from past and present productions are successfully applied to the future WHAT DOES IT TAKE? To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following characteristics: - Proven experience as a 1st Assistant Director in the Television industry, preferably in Continuing Dramas Good working knowledge of Movie Magic Demonstrable interest in the BBC and the wider industry Thorough knowledge of the production process, including studio / venue, live / pre-recorded processes, craft roles and facility / technical requirements Good working knowledge of H&S procedure on a drama sets including stunt work and experience of implementing and monitoring safe working practices Ability to effectively manage interpersonal relationships and work together in as a team Sufficient interpersonal and communication skills to be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of contacts Proven track record of being organized and responsive in fast paced environments Demonstrates strong organizational and planning skills, and managing conflicting demands for timely delivery Ablility to proceed on your own initiative confidently, using your judgment to escalate when necessary Experience of understanding creative goals and program requirements whilst being able to visualise and help turn creative ideas into practical reality Experience of motivating, controlling and influencing others to achieve results Ability to predict the factors that are likely to cause problems for the production and communicate those to the relevant people Essential skills in business and finance - able to prepare, manage and / or monitor budgets and resource plans for a specific production A knowledge and passion for Continuing Dramas, especially Casualty LIFE AT BBC STUDIOS Here, we champion an inclusive culture aligned with our Pledge, fostering an environment where you can freely unleash your creativity, in the pursuit of bold content.
