Job summary The Colchester Urology Fellowship Programme is designed to provide mid-grade training posts at Specialist Registrar and post SPR level. The programme has seven fellows in rotation with one Specialty Trainee on the East of England Rotation. A number of previous post holders have gone on to specialised further fellowships or Consultant Urologist posts via CESR (Article 14). The Urology unit currently has eight consultants with individual sub-speciality interests that allow them to provide SPR level mentoring. Three consultants specialising in oncology perform laparoscopic and robotic radical prostatectomy as well as laparoscopic and robotic nephrectomy. One consultant specialises in robotic and laparoscopic nephrectomy and pyeloplasty. Main duties of the job The post holder will be employed as a whole time Urology Specialist on the basis of 10 sessions. The post involves: Core and specialist urological surgical procedures performed on the applicants own operating lists for patients under the care of Consultant Urological Surgeons Outpatient clinics held on a weekly basis either at Colchester Hospital or additionally at a peripheral site served by the trust. Day case surgery Diagnostic day case procedures including flexible cystoscopy (haematuria clinics) Educational supervision to junior medical staff Responsibility for carrying out and contributing to clinical audit activity and local governance initiatives.
