Main duties of the job
Previous experience is advantageous but not essential. The Trust is committed to your development and will create a dedicated personal development plan for you to ensure you are fully supported. We have a dedicated education team who are committed to guiding and nurturing you through your career. They will be on hand to support and guide you in completing the Care Certificate, to ensure you have the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake your new role. You will be assigned an assessor on the ward where you are based, who will support you as you embark upon your exciting journey at Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Whilst working alongside one of our amazing teams, you will have the chance to develop and showcase these skills. Some of our HCAs have gone on to become Nursing Associates or Registered Nurses, so the sky is the limit for you here in Bolton!
Our hospitals are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our staff work on a shift basis to ensure our patients receive the very best care at all times.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will carry out a broad range of clinical duties, under the guidance of our registrants, including:
1. Establishing a professional rapport with your patients, their relatives, and your colleagues.
2. Having a good understanding of the complex needs of your patients.
3. Communicating effectively with your patients, their relatives, and your colleagues.
4. Ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
5. Delivering personal care including assisting patients with their elimination needs.
6. Having full understanding of a patient's mobility abilities and providing assistance when required.
7. Providing support to patients who require enhanced care.
8. Assisting patients, where necessary, by using appropriate aids/appliances to achieve physical comfort. This will involve the safe moving and handling of patients to varying degrees depending on their condition and care needs.
9. Serving meals and drinks to patients, and assisting patients with their nutritional needs.
10. Bed making, correct disposal of linen and waste.
11. Providing information to enable the effectiveness of the care to be evaluated and accurate records maintained.
12. Contributing to patient safety.
13. Working collaboratively with your colleagues to deliver high standards of patient care.
14. Working within the limitations of your own competence and scope of practice, seeking assistance when required.
15. Actively providing support and reassurance to patients and their relatives.
16. Acting as an advocate for your patients.
17. Reporting and escalating any concerns regarding patient care.
18. Ensuring the safekeeping of patients' property and valuables within Trust guidelines.
You may be required to work across a number of wards and departments across the Division on a rotational basis, so this is a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a number of different clinical areas.
Person Specification
* Care Certificate
* NVQ or Apprenticeship qualification at Level 2 or above in Care or equivalent.
* If attained a level 2 must be willing to work towards a level 3 Apprenticeship once started in the Trust.
Experience
* Experience of working within a team/team environment.
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting with a range of client groups.
* Experience of working in the NHS.
Skills
