We are seeking a motivated, talented, professional Senior Ecologist to join our consultancy team, offering creative solutions that benefit both business and nature. Role Summary
To bid, win and deliver a range of ecological survey, assessment, and net gain projects that exceed client expectations while contributing to nature's restoration. As a senior member of the ecology team, you will be responsible for the management and safe delivery of a range of complex and interesting projects on time and on budget, working with clients, collaborators, and subcontractors, where required.
Training and mentoring of junior members of the team will be a key aspect of your role, and your technical experience will be integral to this. Your input into the design of the ecology services will be sought, and there will be a requirement for proactive marketing of the Consultancy. You will work with clients, colleagues, and collaborators in a professional, competent, and friendly manner and deliver work within and adhering to Biodiverse Consulting’s framework of policies and procedures.
Role Responsibilities
* Produce proposals for a range of services, sector, and client project types
* Undertake desktop study, preliminary ecological assessments, protected species, botanical and habitat surveys, shadow Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRA), and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) including analysis, interpretation, and application to projects
* Production and coordination of Ecology Ornithology chapters alongside Technical Appendices for Environmental Statements within Environmental Impact Assessment processes
* Ecological Clerk of Works for complex construction schemes
* Nutrient Neutrality & Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments (including application of Biodiversity metric) for onsite and offsite schemes as well as strategic assessments
* Report production and technical review (including map production)
* Protected Species Licence Applications and implementation (including appropriate mitigation and compensation schemes)
* Efficient and professional client relationship management
* Project management (including budgetary & resource planning of your projects)
* Train, mentor, and support colleagues through a clear and structured programme
* Line management of a team
* Coordination of collaborators and subcontractors
* Ecology service design, input, and continuous improvement
* Promotion of services and company via digital media, including website and social media
* Adherence to company Health and Safety policies, practices, processes, and procedures
Experience & Knowledge
* Min. four years working in ecology consultancy
* Strong botanical survey skills (UK Habs & NVC)
* Report writing and technical review
* Extensive Preliminary Ecological Appraisals alongside protected species surveys (GCN, bat, mammals & barn owl etc.)
* Habitat Regulation Assessment screening, complex Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) & Ecology
* Chapter production for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
* Project management skills (including financial management and resource planning)
* Track record of delivering training and mentoring schemes for colleagues
* Detailed understanding and application of Ecological Impact Assessment in complex residential, renewable, and infrastructure schemes including Infrastructure Projects
* Detailed understanding of designated sites, citations, and assessment of development impacts
* Understanding of Habitat Regulations Assessment process
* Extensive knowledge of Development Planning Regime including Planning Policy Framework & Schedule of 7a Town and Country Planning Act
* Detailed knowledge and application of current & incoming environmental, wildlife, and habitats legislation
* Basic knowledge of the principles of Environmental Net Gain & Natural Capital Assessment desirable
* Proficient use of Office 365, QGIS, and Coreo software applications in the field
Qualifications & Memberships
* Min. of BSc degree in Ecology or closely related subject
* FISK Level 4 desirable
* Min. of 1 Protected Species Licence at Class 2 level or progressing towards
* CIEEM membership (min Associate)
